Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and leadership of women everywhere. 💜

Wonderbag is proud to be a social enterprise run by women, for women — supporting communities in South Africa and around the world with a simple but powerful solution.

In South Africa, Wonderbags empower women with a safe, fuel-saving way to cook that reduces time spent gathering firewood and frees up time for education, work, and family life.

This month, during Ramadan, Wonderbags help families prepare nourishing slow-cooked meals while using less fuel, easing the burden on women who often carry the responsibility of cooking for loved ones during this sacred time.

And in Ukraine, Wonderbags are helping women and families cook hot meals in challenging conditions, providing warmth, comfort, and dignity when it matters most.

Beyond this, we have supported women and communities in Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda, Malawi, Jordan, Gaza, and the DRC, helping families cook more safely while reducing fuel use and environmental impact.

SUPPORT WOMEN & FAMILIES AFFECTED BY GLOBAL CONFLICT

For over 15 years, the WONDERBAG Foundation has supported women and families facing hardship around the world.

As global conflict, displacement, and rising living costs push more communities into crisis, women are often left carrying the responsibility of feeding their families with little or no access to fuel, energy, or safe cooking methods.

Today, the WONDERBAG Foundation is reopening its donation page to help deliver practical, life-sustaining support to women and families affected by this global conflict.

Working with trusted humanitarian partners on the ground, we help provide WONDERBAGs alongside essential aid and support to some of the hardest-hit communities. We also work with women within these communities to strengthen local livelihoods by manufacturing WONDERBAGs locally and playing key roles in delivering the programme where it is needed most, empowering women to support their families and communities.

🌍🇿🇦Helping Cook Up Real Climate Data 🌍🇿🇦

We’re currently conducting important field research across South Africa to measure the real-world impact of WONDERBAG users on carbon emissions.

Why does this matter? WONDERBAG isn’t just a slow cooker—it’s a Verra-certified climate solution. Our heat-retention technology reduces cooking energy use by up to 70%, significantly cutting household CO2 emissions. But data drives change. By understanding how everyday cooks like you use your bags, we can refine our models, prove our impact to international partners, and ultimately secure more resources to get subsidised WONDERBAG bags into communities that need them most.

We are reaching out directly to current WONDERBAG owners to participate in a brief survey. Your insights help us verify our environmental claims and expand our reach.

18 years ago, I started @thewonderbag to support Africa’s most vulnerable women and children. Today, our continent faces a devastating crisis.

CRITICAL UPDATE:
• The dismantling of USAID and cuts to U.S. foreign aid have severely disrupted global HIV/AIDS programs in Africa
• Our friends at Alive Medical Services in Uganda have lost ALL funding
• Dr. Pasquin and her team are fighting to save lives with ZERO support

Comfort Lunch made the easy way…
and still full of flavour ..mmmm.

This one-pot biryani came together so effortlessly — thanks to @shanspicesa doing all the heavy lifting, and my @thewonderbag for finishing it off to perfection 🤍

📝 Ingredients:
± 1 kg chicken
1 box Shan Bombay Biryani Masala
3 tbsp Shan Ginger Garlic Masala
2–3 onions (sliced)
Green chillies
Mustard seeds
Jeera (cumin) seeds
Cloves
Elachi (cardamom)
Tomatoes (cubed)
Pre-boiled rice
Oil

Sides:
Papad / poppadoms
Soji (see previous reel 😉)
Sour milk

👩‍🍳 Method:
Braise onions with green chillies, mustard seeds, jeera, cloves, and elachi until fragrant.
Add Shan Ginger Garlic Masala and cook briefly until aromatic.
Add chicken and allow it to brown slightly.
Add the full box of Shan Bombay Biryani Masala — no extra spices or salt needed.
Add cubed tomatoes and cook until the gravy forms and moisture rises.
Add your pre-boiled rice, mix lightly, then layer more rice on top.
Transfer to your Wonderbag, close, and allow it to steam for about 2 hours.
Open to perfectly cooked, fluffy biryani ✨ by @thewonderbag
