The listing for the 10th month of the Mythical Creatures of Caledonia monthly mystery yarn club is now LIVE on Etsy, see my story for the link!
These parcels will ship by Halloween so it’s only fitting that our creature should be connected to the thinning veil: according to myth, the Bean Nighe, this solitary washerwoman appears near Highland streams and washes the clothes of someone yet living, foreshadowing their imminent passing.
If you’d like to get on board with the club, you can find all info in the listing! I will also reveal the 9th mystery shade inspired by The Wulver in a few days, once all recipients have received their box.

The news have broken, the 2026 vendor list is now LIVE on @eastneukknits’ website so I can announce that I’ll be there as one of many fantastic vendors in November!

I could not be more thrilled, ENK was an absolute delight, even though I’ve been fortunate enough to vend at several exceptional, perfectly planned and executed events over the years, the atmosphere of this festival at @bowhousefife was second to none. If you are looking for a real treat before Christmas, book your tickets when they go on sale in a couple of weeks’ time! 🥰

SPECIAL BATCH ALERT! Read about a wonderful new collaboration between yours truly @thewoolchemist and wonderful native breed farmers @beautiful_fleece to bring very special limited edition jumper quantity batches to life, combining the art of hand dyeing and the incomparable properties of natural, untreated 100% British wool yarns!
Beautiful Fleece champions the native British breeds of sheep. These ancient genetics are important for the future of farming in many ways. This particular Aran weight batch was spun from the fleece of Geraldine, whose parents are Lola and Leif and between them their ancestry includes Wensleydale, Blue Faced Leicester and Lleyn, which can trace its roots back to the 1700s. The combination of these native breeds results in a semi lustre artisan yarn with a soft, crisp handle and a beautiful drapiness. The inclusion of the Lleyn breed gives the yarn a wonderful bounce and volume, whilst the BFL brings softness, making it gentle on the skin.

Dyeing these skeins was a labour of love and when choosing my new colourway “Spear Thistle” with its beautiful heather tones, I wanted to further emphasise the Scottish heritage and create a truly special batch that will make someone a true heirloom piece! I am bringing this batch to @glasgowschoolofyarn next weekend, where you can see and feel it! If you already decided you want it, message me to reserve it on a first come basis! It’s 8 skeins, dyed with great care at the same time in 2 batches side by side, totalling 800g and approximately 1280 meters of Aran weight bouncy and lustrous untreated wool.
I am beyond excited to start introducing native breed and untreated wool to my portfolio as a dyer, and I hope to find those among my followers who are happy to stray from the extra fine superwash merino and try something so natural and special.
So looking forward to my next batch from Beautiful Fleece, if you are interested in jumper quantities and have a specific colour in mind, contact me to discuss and we will make it happen!
Find me and Geraldine’s gorgeous wool at The Briggait next Saturday and Sunday, 10-5 both days, at Stall 16 🥰

A bit late but I finally get around to tell you what a great time we had at @linlithgownightmarket last Friday! The turnout was astronomical and I loved meeting so many new people as well as catching up with old friends!
A huge thank you goes out to Katie @artofmorrow for having me and for organising such a successful and lovely event. I also made so many gorgeous purchases from the talented vendors in the main room! I hope to return in the future!
And also thanks to best neighbour and great friend Leonor @eleanor.shadow, it’s always a blast vending next to you and your glamorous assistant! Thanks for looking after me ❤️

Scroll to see the beautiful creations they brought to show me! I tried multiple captions for the first time and it was quite the experience 😅

Kirsti @knorris_knits showing off her gorgeous new assigned pooling design “Fairy Pools”, which will be published very soon! Here in my Perseids colourway…

… and here in the Mechanical Flow shade which was my show special for @tangledgalashiels back in 2025!

A fabulous cowl made in Botanics in Bloom, my show special from @woollygoodedinburgh!

And a perfect example that with my Brushed Merino Lace, you can indeed make a jumper with just one skein! This one was beautifully knitted in Seaglass 🥰

And another show special, from @tangledgalashiels this year: Bernat Klein’s Aurora which was inspired by his gorgeous fabric. How wonderful is the striping effect! I love to see this colourway knitted up!

Last but not least this utterly gorgeous crochet top with shades from my Regency (Bridgerton) Advent from 2024, so lovely and happy 😊

And finally a little video with close ups for your viewing pleasure. I didn’t take all my stock because the space was limited but tried my best to have a good selection. Hopefully I will get to do this event again in the future, it was magical 🤩 by @thewoolchemist

Let’s take a look at the 8th chapter in my menagerie of the Mythical Creatures of Caledonia! For August, the creature of the month was the Cat Síth, the mysterious black cat wandering the edges of this world and the one beyond. In my choice of colours, I borrowed deep black from its shiny fur and bone white from the distinct patch on its chest, and I brought in the foreboding blue of gloaming and the moist green of soft moss dampening the footsteps passing through old graveyards. The result is a beautiful symphony of mystery, caution and otherworldliness. The contrast colour “Beyond the Veil” is a shade that is as hard to capture on photos as the creature itself. A green tinted whisper grey resembling a ghostly presence.
If you like this shade and you enjoy learning about myths and legends, consider joining the next instalment of the club, which will go live next week. Do you have any guesses what the next creature could be?

So late this month to list the new club on Etsy, it’s been such a busy couple of weeks starting with my husband’s birthday, then the whole family suffering through a nasty cold, vending at Portsoy, dyeing up preorders, running an online yarn market, huge yarn and dye orders needing to go in, and finally my daughter’s 13th birthday (which is today, but we’ve been celebrating all weekend) that it took the back burner. Here it is however, better late than never - and I might leave it open a bit longer to make up for lost time and give everyone a chance to get their orders in.

We remain on land, but leave the Highlands for the Shetland Islands to meet this kindly wolf-human who leaves fish for hungry families, guides lost travellers back to the safety of the village, and is often spotted quietly fishing from a flat rock known as the “Wulver’s Stane”. But this tale is not as old as time, and only goes back a hundred years. In fact, it’s the figment of a folklorist’s imagination that took off and lives on. If you want to learn more, subscribe to the club and you can read the info card when it comes in your lovely box with a surprise gift, a treat and one (or more) gorgeous skein(s) of luxury hand dyed yarn in my newest mystery colourway, based on the shades seen on the second photo!

Not your everyday thistle interpretation! It’s been a long time coming, and it went through a few versions before reaching this form that I fell head over heels in love with. “Spear Thistle” joins an ever growing collection of my Scotland inspired permanent colourways, just in time to debut at @woolatportsoy on many of my bases including Deluxe Sock DK and 4ply, Merino, Merino/Cotton, Bouclé Lace, Sparkle 4ply and of course ALL the sock sets, large and mini alike! (It fits in beautifully with old friends like Seaglass, Pandora and Two for Joy, too!)

Please welcome Spear Thistle to the Woolchemist colourway family, and tell me what you would make with it! I’ll bring plenty of this shade to Portsoy this Saturday, come see it (and me!) in person at my stall in the Church Centre between 10am and 4pm 🥰

My last “Joy Dye Day” resulted in this rather eye catching phenomenon that I named “Halcyon Days”. The colours resemble one of the brightest type of kingfishers, the ruddy kingfisher (halcyon coromanda) that lives in the Far East, and the name reminded me of this phrase referring to a joyful, golden time from the past. So now we can all have it on yarn: the best days to remember, the happiest memories we can always revisit and relive. Just like the halcyon bird in Greek mythology that built its nest near the ocean and calmed the winds and storms to keep the eggs safe: may the memories of our past golden times come to visit us in our times of hardship and sorrow, to calm our seas and bring messages of hope for a brighter future.

“Halcyon Days” is currently only available in limited quantities on my extra fine 100% SW merino 4ply base from my Etsy shop, but I’ll have it in the pans again on Wednesday and I’ll dye it up on all my bases to bring to @woolatportsoy next weekend! Perfect for assigned pooling projects, and it has UV reactive dyes that will be luminous in the sun and glow under black light.

The next colourway for August in my cross-border colour collab with @geszter_dyedyarns was inspired by the Perseids meteor shower that peaked this week (on the night of the near-total solar eclipse no less!)
My sister @norushknitting gives us a word for each month and my Hungarian dyer friend Eszter and myself both come up with a colourway based on that word. It’s such a fun way to share our creative passion and brings playfulness into the dye process. I love seeing how different our interpretation is each month! (I will reveal our shade side by side in my stories both for this month and the last month too.)
My take on “The Perseids” had to be assigned pooling and UV reactive! Nothing says shooting stars like some luminous streaks! 💫 These skeins are dip-dyed in a pretty blue and one end is left light, then speckled generously with different UV reactive dyes that will glow under black light. This lighter area will make these skeins ideal for assigned pooling projects. The currently in stock skeins are available from my Etsy Shop and I’m happy to dye this shade on any of my bases not currently in stock so message me if you fell in love!
