🐄 Bavel has its very first mural! Breda-based artist and illustrator @rutgertermohlen (@theworldofturmoil ) created a striking artwork inspired by the village’s patron saint, Saint Brigid.

⛪ At the heart of the mural is Brigid, one of Ireland’s most important saints and the namesake of Brigidastraat. As the patron saint of livestock, she is often depicted alongside a cow - a symbol that also appears in Bavel’s historic coat of arms. The mural also features references to the former St. Brigid Church and the traditional Brigid’s Cross, believed to protect farms and cattle.

Blind Walls Gallery spoke with Breda-based artist @rutgertermohlen (@theworldofturmoil ) to talk about the past, the present and the future of his career as an artist!

2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ This marks our first mural in Bavel as well as Blind Walls Gallery’s 200th project! That sadly doesn't mean you can find 200 murals in the area, as many have disappeared over the years. Still, this milestone is worth a big CHEERS! Prost! Santé! Yamas! Skål! 🥂 and here's to your beautiful work, Rutger!

👩🏻‍🌾 Inhabitants of Bavel: did you spot the great @rutgertermohlen (@theworldofturmoil ) at the Brigidastraat this week? The Breda-based artist is working on a mural that tells the story of Saint Brigid!

🐮 One of the most important figures in the Christian tradition, Saint Brigid lived during the 5th and 6th centuries and is considered a patron saint of Ireland. She founded the famous monastery of Kildare and was known to take care of the poor. She was often invoked against diseases affecting cattle.

🏆 This marks our first mural in Bavel as well as Blind Walls Gallery’s 200th project! That doesn't technically mean there are 200 murals in the city, as some projects contain multiple works and many have disappeared. Still, this milestone is worth a big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us over the years. We love you!
