hello hello! i finished this book last month and have read a handful of others since then (that i also need to review) so here it finally is! i’ve been hyping the HELL out of this book because wow—it really, truly blew me away. hanya yanagihara is such a skilled writer, i can only aspire to be as enlightened as her 🙏

i gave this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 :) i’ll see y’all soon for my next review! -manu

first non-fiction of the year! though technically classified as fiction due to the changing of names and such, this is def an autobiography if only a BIT fictionalized. crazy read and thoroughly enjoyed, it was definitely never boring, that’s for sure!

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 for me :)

see yall in the next one -manu

told y’all we had more reviews coming up >:) here’s our joint review for rf kuang’s Katabasis! this one i can safely say we both thoroughly enjoyed, and i’m hoping yellowface turns out to be a similar experience!

i used the goodreads rating as the average because i know goodreads is the most common platform readers use for reviews, but i personally am a huge storygraph enjoyer and the average rating on that was 3.94! so take that as you will :) but with that said here’s our review!

hiiiiii friends! been a while since i’ve been on and i was feeling like doing a little book tag 😊 and showing y’all what i’ve been reading this year so far! Here we go!

best book you’ve read so far in 2025- Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins!! I loved every minute of this book and cried like… an inordinate amount i would say- truly lives up to the hype!

best sequel you’ve read so far in 2025- has to be the same as above… oops sorry i love you Suzanne Collins :)

new/upcoming releases you haven’t read yet- i’m in the beginning of Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid and LOVING it (of course) but i’m also super excited for Katabasis by R.F. Kuang and Coldwire by Chloe Gong!!

biggest disappointment- Unfortunately, probably Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado, although I liked some of the stories, they felt disjointed at times and i didn’t feel the stories all meshed well.

biggest surprise- When Women were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill! i saw soooo many middling reviews but listened to the audiobook of this one and loved it!! it lives rent-free in my mind.

favorite new author- Yaa Gyasi will definitely be one I’ll be reading again, i loved Homegoing and can’t wait to read her other works.

newest favorite character- Blue from This Is How You Lose the Time War! i loved her so much oh my goodness, and how the author made me adore her in such a short time i’m not sure but she is SO baby.

made you cry- Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. self-explanatory i fear?

made you happy- Good Omens probably made me the most happy, it’s a reread and truly the biggest comfort read ever.

most beautiful book you’ve bought this year- i bought a folio edition of Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin this year, and it’s the most beautiful thing ever.

favorite book to movie adaptation- The Quiet American by Graham Greene. A spellbinding story set in Vietnam before the Vietnam War, gorgeous scenery and so interesting!

that’s all from me folks! see y’all next time 🫡
