i’ve loved this quote from the moment i first heard it, and i treasure the books that explore it.

what happens when neglect, isolation, or cruelty become the forces that shape someone’s entire life?

here are some of my favorites across genres that wrestle with that question.

which book would you add to this list?

books that remind me of philosophical concepts. i had so much fun making this. are there any books that remind you of philosophical concepts? and if you know of any books that play with plato’s allegory of the cave, please send them my way. thanks for looking! ✨

I won my first ARC giveaway. Respectfully, @saracatebooks, you did not have to understand immigrant households, anxiety, trust dynamics, AND kink discourse this well. I need to sit down with you over a Diet Coke and ask approximately 400 questions about your research process.

3 tropes I will fall for every time and can usually guess just by reading the synopsis alone.

Featuring:

• chosen ones (+/- with antihero energy)
• humanity meets the unknown
• women going through something

I will share a slide show with my top 5 (ie, the ones above + grumpy HER and dark academia), but here’s an appetizer!

What’s your favorite trope?

ITS HERE. My thoughts on The Sparrow by @marydoriarussell.

No spoilers. Just faith, suffering, first contact, and one of the most devastating endings I’ve ever read.

And yes, all the metaphors are my own. I pulled those directly out of the void 😭

This beautiful edition is from @thebrokennbinding

Here is my Heir of Prophecy fancast that I actually got to share with @analeighsbrana at ApollyCon.

I don’t always have clear visuals when I read, but this one played out like a movie in my head. Getting to show her my cast and see her reaction was everything.

Thank you @analeighsbrana, @harpervoyagerus, @avonbooks, @michelleinchapters, and @apollycon for making my first ApollyCon experience so memorable.

i didn’t mean for these to all be about identity, but here we are.

some of these dismantle you.
some of them rebuild you.
some of them just quietly sit there and make you uncomfortable.

what are yours?!

no shade to nihilists, but you and I both know the whole world couldn’t survive like that.

this book follows a group of women imprisoned underground with no explanation. no system, no clear villain, just… nothing.

it felt less like a story and more like a philosophical experiment. what is a person without memory, identity, or anything. it reminded me of plato’s cave, but in reverse.

i loved it.

curious what other people made of this.
