New on Creative Current: V. Sheree Williams.

James Beard Award-winning editor and publisher of Cuisine Noir and founder of The Global Food and Drink Initiative, V. Sheree Williams has spent over a decade reshaping how we document Black foodways, centering truth, cultural memory, and global connection across the African diaspora.

She works at the intersection of journalism and preservation, challenging who tells stories and how they are told.

In this interview, she reflects on her journey into media, the realities of building an independent publication, and why storytelling must move beyond visibility into record.

A defining voice in food media, and a conversation worth sitting with.

If countries had a love language, Portugal’s might be food.
Slow meals. Local wine. Quiet generosity. No rush.

I sat down with Dylan Herholdt for his podcast Portugal – The Simple Life to talk about why Portuguese food culture is so deeply underrated — and how it’s shaped the way I live, eat, and write here.

This conversation felt less like an interview and more like a shared table moment.

Grateful for the space to reflect out loud.

Some interviews feel like a full-circle moment.

I first met Sara four years ago when she reached out while finishing her master’s degree. She wanted to learn about my experience as a Black American journalist living in Portugal. Not long after, she offered to help me learn Portuguese, and over the years, she and her sister Leia have become friends whose wisdom, generosity, and commitment to Afro-diasporic communities I deeply admire.

Today, I’m so happy to share the conversation we recorded together for Afroeuropeu.

We talk about food as memory.
Food as ancestry.
Food as resistance.
Food as love.

As a Haitian American, so much of my work is rooted in the belief that recipes are archives and that every meal carries stories of migration, survival, and joy.

Thank you, Sara and Leia, for creating spaces where these conversations can live and for your friendship over the years. ❤️

If this conversation speaks to you, I’d love to hear your biggest takeaway after you watch it.

Honored to be featured in Bold Journey today.

Nearly a decade of writing, a lifelong love of storytelling, and a belief that the best work comes from staying curious, that’s really what this conversation is about.

Grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped the journey, and excited for what’s next with Creative Current, my workshops, and my writing.

Creative Current is back 🍾

Today, I’m sharing a conversation I’ve been excited to publish for a long time:

Creative Current: Inside Delância and the New Language of Portuguese Terroir

Delância is one of those brands I’ve genuinely enjoyed in real life — poured at dinners, art openings, pop-ups, and long Lisbon conversations where wine becomes part of the atmosphere, not the performance.

In this interview, founders Tom Simpson and Inês Deroche Rios speak candidly about:
– Their V d’Or Best Innovation Wine Shortlist 2026 recognition
– Building Delância from a blank canvas
– Breaking wine’s rules, but doing it elegantly
– Living terroir, not just farming it
– Creating something joyful, emotional, and deeply connected to Portugal

This is not about hype.
It’s about process, curiosity, learning from zero, and staying close to people and place.

If you care about creativity, food culture, Portugal, or what it really takes to build something meaningful here, this one’s for you.

Deep gratitude to the incredible editorial team and to Paulo for the opportunity to contribute to this beautifully curated edition. Thank you @louiscannings for your incredible artwork that accompanied the article.🍃

This cover — “Mother: Ljubomir’s Root” — reminds me how deeply our origins shape our creative and culinary journeys. Sustainability, after all, begins with what (and who) roots us. 🌱 Want to read it? Head to @manja_pt ‘s website!

In my recent @shallwewine piece for Pour & Explore, I'm celebrating the trailblazing women reshaping the wine industry—one bottle, one story at a time. 🍷✨

"If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together." This African proverb perfectly captures the spirit of community that's elevating women in wine today.

From Iris Rideau, the first African American wine producer, to rising stars like Aamira Garba of LoveLeeWine and the powerhouse duo behind Philosophy Winery—these women aren't just breaking barriers, they're redefining what leadership looks like in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

I had the privilege of speaking with incredible industry veterans like Dame Nikki Wooldridge-Pinto, sommelier Jean-Wesley Michel, and storyteller Sarita Cheaves of @swirlsuite, who shared their journeys and the remarkable women inspiring them. I'm also inspired by visionaries like Ty-Juana Flores, founder of Tfluxè, whose passion for wine continues to influence the industry landscape.

Their stories remind us that wine isn't just about what's in the glass—it's about acknowledging our shared humanity, one conversation at a time. 🥂
