WHAT AN UNEXPECTED DISCOVERY

📍Ramen Hiro, Tomas Morato QC

Food: 9/10
Service: 10/10
Ambiance: 9/10

Passed by on a whim. Came out extremely happy. Feels like Japan.

The place was inconspicuous but inviting, like a true hidden-not-so-hidden gem. Staff were friendly and service was with a smile. You can opt to sit at a long bar area which was our preference anyway.

The Ramen was OH SO GOOD. The Aka Ramen was a fave of my wife, calling it even better than Yus****n. I personally liked that the soup and noodles were piping hot, unlike the other ramen joint i mentioned (i hate not hot soup).

I also particularly liked my Shio Ramen. Both soups were very light and absolutely not salty while retaining umami. And the Karaage was HUGE, very lightly and delicately breaded.

My one and only point for improvement was that the chashu was thin and cold.

But overall, reminds us of a michellin star ramen bar in Tokyo which we absolutely loved.

DISCLAIMER: this is not for you if you like: creamy and rich ramen, thick chashu.

Also apparently it's their anniversary, so this posts gets me a free ramen. #RamenHiroAnniversary by @theyoungmasteryu

10 years of ups, downs, and of you still surprising me with the things you do.

To my "you're right," i'm so glad you chose this stupid man.

Love you. by @theyoungmasteryu

Sicilian Roast is all that it's supposed to be: a no nonesense example of italian cuisine.

🔵 The Sicillian Roast Salad was divine: fresh and uncomplicated. The mix of tang from the raspberry vinigrette dressing pairs so well with the saltiness of the cheese and savoriness of the focaccia croutons.

🔵 Chichen Parmigiana was huge, with a nice cheese crust on the side. The chicken was very tender and the flavors balance well. It was not super oily either. We also got the eggplant parmigiana, which was cooked just as well.

🟠 The Linguine alla Boscaiolla al Tartufo was their creamy take on a mushroom based pasta. This, in my opinion, was a bit on the salty side, and leans very heavy. I'm not much a fan of cream based sauces, but if this is your thing then by all means. BUT, it was very mushroomy without the pungent taste, which I appreciate.

🟠 The vongole I did not try personally. But according to my companions, this initially was absolutely salty. Our party commented this to the chef, and they gave us a fresh batch, which was so much better. I'm a big fan of vongole, so this is always a recommend for me - just keep in mind to tell them to lessen the salt.

🟠 The Arugula Prosciutto pizza is about as standard as they come. But here, it is very fresh, and you can taste how premium their ingredients are. The crush, though, was too thin at the center, so the slices would have the thing crumbling down the center then you pick it up. But otherwise, a nice dish.

🔵 Service quality was amazing, with our table fully taken care of at every contact point. Kudos to Sicilian Roast's team for an amazing experience everytime we come here.

🔵Overall a 9/10 by @theyoungmasteryu

It's been a hot, hot minute.

I can't believe I have to compress 365 days into a minute. I can't even believe it's been 365 days - a full revolution around the sun.

What I do quite grasp, though, is that both of us are living these moments together, through the thick and thin of it.

It might not have been the grandest. It probably could have been more exciting, or less stressful. But the year we shared together was the one the universe thought was the right one for us.

And I truly would not have had it any other way.

Happy first anniversary, true waifu. by @theyoungmasteryu

I rarely, RARELY have anything bad to say about the food I eat. Much less post about it. I don't usually think it's worth the hassle over getting upset over something wrong with the food, especially if it's a technicality, or a certain taste preference befitting a certain cuisine or culture.

But this, this is different.

@heyfriedrice egg fried rice was unappetizing, impassionate, expensive, and a complete and total disappointment of a fried rice.

Rice was clumpy and sticky. Shrimp was fishy. It lacked flavor. It lacked depth. All i could taste was salty and fishy.

The branch i went to in @robinsonsmagnolia has an open window so you can see that they're doing. They person cooking looked like he did not know what he was doing. He burned the egg while cooking. Kept on turning the heat off while adding ingredients (which he had a hard time looking for). Egg, rice, loads of chicken powder, and lods of spring onions, and them mixing- no tossing. No wok hei. No other ingredients. The shrimp he just took from what appeared to be a briny fishy container.

He did not cook the shrimp separately, which scared me. And he did not drain she shrimp of the water it was submersed in when dropping it in the mix.

And, the cooker was right next to the sink, where someone was washing at the same time as the cooking.

Absolutely horrible food. Zero value for the price. So much so that I feel I was scammed of my money. I should have gotten myself North Park yang chow fried rice, or Chowking chowfan.

Don't listen to the next influencer who thinks this place is good. IT. IS. NOT - STAY. AWAY.

What a post to end my hiatus. by @theyoungmasteryu

When @tomo.japanese.dining blew up quite a while back, i never really gave in and gave it a shot. A few years after, i finally decided to dive the streets of san juan for it.

Okay, so it's a little hard to find, a little hard to park. The menu can be overwhelming, and the restaurant isn't the most aesthetic. But the food will definitely get you.

I ordered my japanese staple, the oyakodon (chicken and egg over rice), while Justine ordered ochazuke (tea/broth over rice), which is very rare here. We also ordered a side of kisu fish tempura and a roll.

Goes without saying that everything tasted great. Simple. Inoffensive. Uncomplicated. Great. The flavors i expected to be there were there. The quality of the food was good, and the serving sizes are enough. I would have tried more things on their menu if i weren't so full.

Definitely a must try if you're in the San Juan area and craving for great japanese food. by @theyoungmasteryu

Short review:

I love noodles. Beef wonton noodles are up there for me. And i was cruising along the long stretch of Banawe in Quezon City, i decided to try @neo.noble.12 Neonoble Noodle Station.

And as you figured, i'm posting this because it's good! Very simple, no frills interpretation of the classic beef wonton noodle soup. It was served piping hot, with the noodles in perfect firmness, and toppings aplenty.

I paired it with their radish cake which was also nicely cooked and perfect with the red hot sauce you can only get in true chinese restaurants. by @theyoungmasteryu

While i was looking at my backlogs last year, i was reminded of new friends and places we've been hanging out in. Enter @easytigerph

I've only ever tried easy tiger's pad thai a [very] long time ago. But this time, i was able to try a hearty spread of dishes, with the Crispy Pata with Red Curry being the absolute star of the show (and this is a MUST try).

I also quite enjoyed the Pad See Ew - and i would recommend this if you are tired of Pad Thai or do not like its sweetness. The flavors of the noodles mixed with Thai condiments such as fish sauce (patis), lime, and chilis, perfectly blend together for a delightful dish.

We also had their Pomelo and Shrimp Salad, Chicken Sate, Green Curry Chicken, and of course Mango Sticky Rice for dessert.

As for drinks, we had a huge glass of Lemongrass juice, and a secret item i'll leave the folks of Easy Tiger to share in the near future.

Overall it was a wonderful celebration with wonderful food and wonderful people. Everyone must come dine here.

Special shoutout to @gardener_phil for having us, and for supporting my addiction to food. by @theyoungmasteryu

After a long while, my first post of 2023 is an absolute stunner. Meet Moshi Koshi Noodle Boss. @moshikoshiboss

Moshi Koshi has actually been here for a while now, with very limited branches in metro manila. Now i believe that they're expanding, and for good reason: the ramen is GREAT!

I ordered the shio butter corn ramen. The broth is very light. Noodles (although i would prefer it firmer) have a good bounce to them, and compliments the soup very well. Toppings are thick and generous, with an option to upgrade it to BOSS RAMEN, which is a bigger bowl with an egg and more toppings. Absolutely stunning.

I also ordered their kani salad, which was okay at best (i have to be honest with these things). I wish it had more kani or less cucumber, which muddled the flavor.

Overall, this is a must try for everyone, ramen lovers or not. They also offer udon, and donburi.

Shoutout to my friends who keep on badgering me to try this through their own posts @ryanclive and @ralphpobre by @theyoungmasteryu

Of all the places i haven't eaten in QC, @habanerokitchenbar was one of them. Long lines and a wait time of around 3 hours initially deterred me (again), but we decided to take the risk given that people were raving about the place.

I was ready to get frustrated that the food wasn't good enough for the wait.

But it was.

We ordered the not so special dishes as i wanted to taste those that really weren't their A+ game. The smokey tapa steak was definitely smokey and did not look like tapa. It was more of a delightful chunk of real corned beef. A bit dry, but incredibly soft with so much flavor. The other dish was just the sardines pasta, which was cooked al dente and had a generous serving of slightly spicy sardines.

We actually saw some of the other tables ordering their specials, and boy were they mouth-watering. Makes me wonder why i didn't go the normal route.

Will we come back? If we get another 3 hours of waiting time to spare, yes. Would i recommend the place to people who are willing to brave the line? Definitely. by @theyoungmasteryu
