Thingness is excited to present its 16th exhibition, a duo-show by Joey Bravo and Nina Eriksson.

-

"Hold" combines process debris from Joey and Nina's individual practices, cast into a handpoured sheet of latex that wraps tight around the gallery. The gathering and composition of objects was done by the artists together. The composition process was improvised, informed by their respective practices and points of connection between them.

Thingness is thrilled to present its next artist duo, Joey Bravo and Nina Eriksson!

Joey Bravo (1999, US/ES) is an artist and writer based in Bergen. His work sits at the intersection of ecological and queer politics, drawing on a deep personal connection to water and the emotional dynamics that emerge when humans and non-humans meet.

Nina Eriksson (1997, SE) is an artist and writer based in Bergen. Her work, writing practice, and research revolve around materials and their potential to carry elusive narratives. Engaging with societal ideals of function, she frequently explores desire as a mode of queered functionality and a central force in forging alternative futures.

Thingness is pleased to present its 15th exhibition, by J Pasila.

-

Making the work as part of ‘Thingness’ took me back to some fundamentals around materials, after many years of staring at a screen. It was a delight to think about ‘things’ - objects, collecting - and connect with my passion for the peripheral and ephemeral within the realm of the tactile.

Placing scraps of cardboard into the space of the shelf rekindled the sense of play I felt in making some earlier bodies of work: inspired by photos in books, experimenting with models, and discarded materials. Trying to find ways to bring things that seemed far away up close.

The initial invitation to ‘Thingness’ provoked so many ideas and questions, leading me to dust off some books and works, as well as my own train of thought. I could talk with Hannah and Martin for hours. What a lovely universe this small space they have created opens up. I hope my piece opens up some room for contemplation too.

Thingness is proud to present its next artist!

J.Pasila is a Canadian visual artist and lives in Siglufjordur, Iceland half of each year. She works primarily in digital photography, photograms, and with found photos and videos. Since 2012, she has made prints and short videos from publicly available roadside web cameras set around the Icelandic countryside. Through this somewhat obsessive series—numbering many hundreds to date—she draws our focus to what is happening without our noticing: subtle changes in light, season, and climate.

Thingness is very happy to present its 13th artist!

Lefteris Yakoumakis is a Greek artist living in Siglufjörður, Iceland. He started out as a painter but since 2007 he has focused on writing, making comics and self-publishing. His latest practice includes drawing on rubbish of varying size, which he abandons where found, upon completion. He is also the creator and director of Siglufjörður Comics Festival, probably the northernmost comics festival in the world.

Lefteris graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a Masters in Fine Arts in 2008, specializing in painting. In 2026 he graduated from the Reykjavík Technical school, with a captain’s license for 15 meter long motor boats.

Thingness is excited to present its 13th exhibition and the first at Herhúsið in Siglufjörður. This is the first exhibition in our flat pack travel version and also the first in a while created by us, Hannah and Martin.

We begun our residency here on walks around the town and its surroundings, picking up and collecting, noticing colours and textures. The objects found range from natural (shells, stones, seaweed, Eider duck feathers) to man-made trash (broken plastic, painted cement, rope). As usual, we enjoy finding the red threads between all of these - shapes that mirror, colours and lines connecting up. We wanted to highlight these found objects that might be disregarded or unseen, to the inhabitants of Siglufjörður.

Instead of our regular opening dinner, we hosted a live podcast recording as part of Frjó Art Festival this last weekend. We spoke about our plans for our residency this month, how Thingness started, what Thingness is, the things we’d collected in Siglufjörður to exhibit, before opening up to the audience to hear about their view on objects, things and collecting.

Thingness is on the road! We have just installed our new flat-pack travel version of Thingness at Herhúsið residency in Siglufjörður, up on the North coast of Iceland. We are here for one month during which we will be introducing Thingness at FRJÓ Art Festival with a live podcast episode, and then exhibiting two local artists in the following weeks.

Alongside this we will be spending time researching, reading and writing (and collecting!). We have brought along two books to start us off:
- ‘Object-Oriented Ontology’ by Graham Harman
- ‘The Material Kinship Reader’ ed. by Kris Dittel and Clem Edwards
And we have ‘Speculative Everything. Design, Fiction, and Social Dreaming’ by Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby as a pdf (thank you to our recent artist @lisa_rooth for this recommendation!)

A big thank you to Svensk-Isländska Samarbetsfonden for their support towards the project! #svenskisländska by @thingness_gallery

Thingness is proud to present its 12th exhibition, 'Leftover Blue' by Lisa Mårtensson.

-

Everyday things, found around the Thingness apartment.

What is it like to be a coin?
How does the coin experience the becoming of a pedestal?

In Lisa’s performance practice she collaborates with everyday objects as performers, shifting agency from her own body to theirs and back again, the work unfolds as a more-than-human encounter, renegotiating known hierarchies.

According to Graham Harman, an Object Oriented Ontology philosopher, it is through the metaphor that we can put ourselves in something else’s place. A metaphor couples different objects and creates a new one. Coin-pedestal. Coin-viewer.

This time, the objects are the only performers, the only artists. They are combined and reshaped to perform something other than themselves so that metaphors can appear and coupling can happen.

Thingness is excited to present its 12th artist!

Lisa Mårtensson, based in Malmö, is a performance artist and director/choreographer of several collaborative artistic processes. She has a mixed background in dance, theatre and performance art. In 2019 she finished her Bachelors in Conceptual Performing Arts at the Theatre Academy in Malmö. Since then she has run the performance group Absurdum Temporary Art. In June 2026 she will finish her Masters in Contemporary Performative Arts at the Academy of Music and Drama in Göteborg. During her masters she developed a solo practice inspired by the philosophic branch Object Oriented Ontology, scores from the 60s art movement Fluxus and score-based choreography. It explores agency transfer between human performer and more-than-human performers such as everyday objects. Lisa also runs FRANK Gallery & Studios and VAAG in Malmö.

Thingness is pleased to present its third duo exhibition, 'Visitors', by Rickard Eklund and Queenning Zhao. Our podcast episode with them (ep12) can be found on YouTube via our LinkTree. See more of their work at @rickardelica and @queenning_z

'Visitors'

Sierpiński triangles, the life cycle of a silk moth, a pile of Egyptian water lily leaves. A carved tiger cowrie shell. Peanuts.

Small things turned large, big things shrunk and miniatures oversized. It’s a model and the thing itself. A bunker complex of framing rooms, on a shelf at our friends’ place. Zoom in and consider the scales, like an armadillo or an old apothecary.

Are the little visitors enjoying themselves? Can we imagine ourselves as them? What if they were rather big, how would they be then? by @thingness_gallery

Thingness is thrilled to present its 3rd artist duo, Queenning Zhao and Rickard Eklund!

Queenning Zhao is an artist working with sculpture, installation, and scenography. She is currently based in Stockholm and holds a BFA in Design from HDK and a MFA in Spatial Design from Konstfack.
Her practice revolves around the transience of memory and place in relation to a longing for origin. She explores how we carry, collect, preserve, and reconstruct memories, both personal and collective. Drawing parallels to theatre sets, she examines the tensions between different scales and the boundary between the authentic and the artificial.

Rickard Eklund is a visual artist working with film, printmaking, and sculpture. His experimental approach explores poetic ideas of perspective, dreams, and the limits of perception, seeking to create lines of flight and open new ways of seeing.
He lives and works between Stockholm and Gothenburg. Eklund received an MFA from Valand Academy in Gothenburg in 2014, and has also studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Alongside his own practice, he collaborates with artists and musicians, and has been recognized for record covers and music videos.
