In the warmth of her kitchen, late at night in rural Sri Lanka, a smile that says everything.
This woman runs a sustainable organic farm made possible through foundation support from @kiboalliance, and welcomed me with a generosity that far outweighs material wealth.

What stays with me from documenting communities like this is the quiet joy and graciousness of people who have so little, yet give so much — a powerful contrast to the restlessness of more affluent societies, even with all our comforts and luxuries.

Grateful to tell these stories through the lens with @thinkfarmproductions.

Still from a remote shoot in northern Alberta filming @offgridtrailers . It was cold and we encountered every weather pattern known to man in the span of a few hours. Here, physicians and nurses work against the odds — delivering care where resources are scarce but determination runs deep.

This is not only medicine in motion, but humanity at its most resilient.

Today I had the honor of returning to document children’s powwow at the Lakota Waldorf School on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The energy, the songs, the colors, and the pride these young ones carry is something that reminds me why I tell stories—so traditions live on, and so the world can see the strength and beauty of culture.

The fruits of our labor! There is a common misconception about food supply and starvation in developing parts of the world. The truth is that there is not shortage of food, but rather interruption in the distribution or availability of food. Apart from natural disasters such as floods, droughts, pests, etc., and based on my first hand experiences, food shortages predominantly stem from political and social crises— war & conflict, economic & political instability are the killers of hundreds of millions. Regions like Burundi are abundant with incredibly fertile soil and long growing seasons for all manner of food. The complication that arises is often purely economic— can someone making $0-$2 a day afford to eat and feed their family? Corrupt and unstable governments typically offer no social safety nets for their citizens and so those that fall on hard times are left to fend for themselves in already difficult situations. It’s a vicious cycle. Then, ofcourse, there is the bigger issue of food insecurity and starvation as a weapon— also entirely political. This rural hospital in northern Malawi was a stark reminder of global health inequity— having access to quality healthcare is such a privilege, where it ought to be a right for all. Context: this lady was lucky to have this “private” room to be with her husband who is suffering from multiple ailments including lung and heart problems— they were lucky to receive the only ventilator available for a very large radius of this part of the country. She’s glancing out this broken window at the front entrance of the hospital to observe the commotion, where minutes before we watched a man in his 30s seizure and drop into the gutter to take his last breaths. This hospital is so under resourced that the only nurse on staff walked away knowing there was nothing she could do to help him. He layed where he fell until we left the hospital, as there was nothing to do and nowhere to put him. Two surgeons we spoke with were in their 19th surgery of the day while it happened, and although they were the only doctors on shift chances are they wouldn’t have had the resources to save this life. I’m not ready to post sad photos so here is living proof that the happiest people have the least! I had the privilege of spending the day at the Dzaleka Refugee camp in Malawi— home to over 60,000 displaced predominantly Congolese people fleeing violence and persecution. Humanitarian organizations such as @fraternidadesemfronteiras are doing incredible and essential work there. One of my favourite moments from this most recent project in the heart of Africa. Burundi is a small landlocked country in Eastern Africa, and although it is ranked as the second poorest nation and has a long history of conflict and civil war, it is full of smiles and kindness and one of the most welcoming and colourful cultures I have ever experienced. It has truly been a privilege to spend time here among the Burundians.
