The Think Left Conference is held annually on the date of the historic Derry October 5th 1968 mass Civil Rights march and has become one of Ireland’s largest gatherings of voices of resistance, organisers and campaigners.

Previous conference speakers include Ghassan Abu-Sittah, Bana Abu Zuluf, Mohammed El-Kurd, Dr. Ciara Fitzpatrick, Natasha O’Brien, Kate Nash, Eamonn McCann, Gary Younge, Goretti Horgan, Catherine Pollock, Ilan Pappe, Linda Irvine, Richard Boyd Barrett, Reverend Bill Shaw, Pádraig Óg Ó Ruairc and many others.

Eleanor Marx spoke in St Columb’s Hall in 1889 to thousands of women shirt factory workers organised by the Derry Trade Union Council as part of a successful mass organising drive.

In 1910, Emmeline Pankhurst campaigned for the right to vote for women with a keynote speech in St Columb’s Hall.

We will mark the 20th anniversary of the occupation and decommissioning of the Raytheon war machine facility in Derry and pay tribute to volunteers from Derry who heroically joined the fight against fascism 90 years ago in the Spanish Civil War.

We are at a moment of tremendous danger for humanity that requires an urgent response.

The Think Left Conference is a vital space to map out alternative visions, strategies and tactics to overturn and transcend a decaying capitalist and barbaric imperialist global order.

Glad to join Breandán Mac Cionnaith at the Derry Palestine Solidarity March for Justice on Saturday.

The Gaza genocide might be off the front pages of the press, but the massive scale of global protests this weekend has made it clear Israel is a pariah state.

Let's keep up the pressure on government, corporations, sporting bodies and beyond to fully implement Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment against Israel until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea.

Glad to chair at @thinkleftconference in #Derry this weekend with their panel on Worker Struggle.

A fascinating discussion with many experienced Trade Union activists both on the panel and in the audience about the heavy austerity we face & attempts by workers to organise & fight back.

I took the opportunity at the end to talk about the crisis we face with #MaternityServices at #DaisyHill hospital and the inspirational fight back happening in Spain on housing & France on education. Emboldened by Trump, the far-right, authoritarians and fascists in Ireland and across the world seek legitimacy and power.

We can take inspiration from all those who have stood against division, hate, and fascism, to make it clear again that they shall not pass.

Olivier Besancenot is one of the best-known leaders of the New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA).

He was a candidate in the presidential elections in 2002 and 2007; he received 1.2 million votes (4.5%) and 1.5 million votes (4.2%), respectively.

He is also a rank-and-file worker in the postal service in France.

Olivier will join us to discuss resistance to neoliberalism and the far-right in France and the prospects for socialism.
