As Greece enters the season of the vendema, we follow the vine through some of the places we call home. There is a moment towards the end of the Greek summer when the landscape begins, almost imperceptibly, to change. The light softens. The evenings grow gentler. And in vineyards from the mountains of Crete to the Ionian islands and the southern reaches of the Peloponnese, the year’s work begins to arrive at its most anticipated moment: the harvest.

Known in Greece as the vendema, it is not a single date but a season that moves with the land. Some grapes are gathered beneath the August sun, others remain on the vine into September, waiting for precisely the right balance of ripeness, acidity and character. For generations, harvest has been part of the rhythm of Greek life, a time for families to return to the vineyards, grapes to be gathered, presses to begin working and the first promise of the new vintage to appear. At ThinkVilla, we believe that to know a destination well is to understand what grows there, what is made there, and what continues to be passed from one generation to another. Wine tells all three stories.

And it is a story that feels particularly close to us. Many of our homeowners still produce their own wine in small quantities, gathering family and friends for the harvest and making bottles destined not for a wine list, but for their own tables.
