A sampling of this wonderful gallery I got to create with this lovely couple to celebrate their engagement!

(Instagram won’t let me post the full size photos so opted for the square, therefore you are not seeing the full pictures in all their glory, but trust me they are even more beautiful full size!)

I loved the willingness these two had to have fun with it and we got some really great shots as a result. Being in front of the camera can feel awkward for everyone but these guys were perfect models.

The story behind these photos is both amazing and heartbreaking. It’s a story of loss and mourning and the healing that comes afterwards. My family and I were at a secluded beach, when this couple asked us to snap a picture of them with their phone. They explained that this was their son’s favorite beach and that he had passed away from skin cancer at 24. I just so happened to have brought all my gear with me and offered to take photos on their phone and my camera if they wanted to. I got to hear all about Jake, their son, and be a part of their healing process. The following are words from Kerri, “Since our trip I have had some special shift in my heart. I feel more calm and I have had some days without tears. Jake suffered a very traumatic death, starving in our home on May 28, 2021. He turned 24 on May 20th that year. Then 8 days later I held his hands and looked him in the eye as he died. I helped him go. I wanted to. I am his mom. I took care of him for 7 yrs. He hated needing that and every chance he could he was on an adventure!! Boy did he have a lot of adventures. He lit up every room and was the life of the party. I realized as I stood by his casket I had no plan for my life after Jake. So now I am figuring it out. And I went to Kauai, a place he loved! And I loved it. Thank you for the photo of a really good step to my life without my boy. There are no coincidences.” I am honored to have met these people and to have been a part of their healing journey. Their story has touched my heart and I will never forget that day at the beach.
