Behind the scenes on a Third Wave Volunteer mission - Our days are filled with intense work but we always find time to play - The 4 characteristics of a third wave volunteer are to 1) have a good sense of humor- 2) common sense 3) always check your boots for cockroaches before u put them on and 4) don’t be an asshole :)

Our Third Wave Founder and Leader Dr. Alison Thompson received the prestigious Dorothy Shula award from the United Way Miami yesterday for outstanding volunteer with 25 years as full-time unpaid volunteer humanitarian and incident Commander to our 30,000 first responder Volunteers. Congratulations and thank you to the United Way of Miami for their leadership and help to all the nonprofits over all these years.

Sept 11 th first responders reunite with LOVE in NYC

Third Wave have worked in many global disasters with a wonderful humble rescue worker named Chino ( hector) @topos_mayor from Mexico who leads the Topos rescue teams around the world. @toposazteca
Out of the four topos rescue workers who worked at Ground Zero on September 11th- The other three have died of cancer and chino is the only one remaining.
Although yesterday was a very sad, solemn and quiet day at Ground Zero on the other side of emotions all the rescue workers reunited in a strange kind of joy as we hadn’t seen many of us in 25 years.
We sat and told stories of old - and contemplated how that fatal September day had changed the course of our lives forever.

Everyone is needed- #sept11th
You never know how much your life can change while walking out your door.

25 years ago I rollerbladed 8 miles downtown to the WTC attacks as a first responder and lived in the streets the first week looking for signs of life but the fact was our friends were blown to smithereens.
9 months at ground zero - no-one wanted to leave and we stayed until the last beam was removed.

Lessons learned while the whole world turned up to help was that there is hope for humanity and that everyone was needed to step up and do something - theres a role for everyone .🙏💕

Sometimes, the right people find each other at exactly the right time. ✨

We are deeply grateful to Third Wave Volunteers for bringing their light to Venezuela and turning generosity into something tangible in the hands of families in La Guaira.

Behind every solar light was another beautiful act of love: The Culinary Creative community in Denver, Mary Showstark, Venezuelan chefs and friends came together to raise the funds that, through Third Wave Volunteers, traveled all the way to Venezuela.

Together with Give Pan de Vida, The Firefighters Foundation and On The Ground AI, that light became something greater.

A reminder that hope can travel. That kindness can cross borders. And that when we choose to be a light for someone else, the world becomes a little brighter.

WHEN WE BRING LIGHT, HOPE SHINES. ✨🇻🇪

Last night was about light — in every sense of the word.

Together with Third Wave Volunteers, we gathered with communities affected by the earthquakes to bring solar lights, but also to share something much greater: presence, hope and the certainty that they have not been forgotten.

Because when light enters a dark place, something happens.

Faces shine.
Hope shines.
Love shines.
And, somehow, the possibility of a better tomorrow shines too.

To the entire Third Wave Volunteers team: thank you for coming to Venezuela, for showing up for our people, and for reminding us that bringing light into someone’s life can be both something beautifully tangible and something infinitely greater.

May every one of these lights illuminate a home — and remind the family receiving it that they are seen, they are loved, and they are not alone.

One light. One family. One community at a time. ✨

🕯️ ENCENDAMOS UNA LUZ POR LA GUAIRA. POR VENEZUELA.

Este jueves queremos encender una luz. Y esta vez, será una luz real y también simbólica.

Nos acompañará @thirdwavevolunteers, organización que llegó a Venezuela para acompañar a las comunidades afectadas por los terremotos y que estará entregando linternas solares a familias de La Guaira.

Pero cada luz que encendamos representará algo más.

✨ Una luz por quienes ya no están.
✨ Una luz en agradecimiento por quienes sobrevivieron.
✨ Una luz como declaración de fe y esperanza por Venezuela.

Porque incluso después de los momentos más oscuros, la luz puede volver a encenderse. Y cada uno de nosotros tiene la capacidad —y la responsabilidad— de llevarla a la vida de alguien más.

Nos reuniremos para orar, alabar, agradecer y recordar que podemos ser luz en medio de la oscuridad.
