ST LEONARD’S BANK includes several ornate 19th century detached villas. These
properties, whose fronts face the South Inch, lie within substantial gardens. Perth City
Architect, William Macdonald Mackenzie, acquired the land for St Leonard’s Bank from
the Glovers Incorporation and laid it out for building in 1828. A plaque at the southern
end of St Leonard’s Bank explains that: ‘in this vicinity stood the Priory, Hospital & Chapel
of St Leonard founded before 1296 - gifted by James I to the Prior and Convent of the
Charterhouse in 1429 - suppressed in 1434’. In the 16th century, the Priory (Cistercian
nunnery) of St Leonard suffered repression and the loss of its lands and revenue to the
Carthusian Charterhouse. Nevertheless, the Priory maintained itself for some time after.
The remains of the hospital and chapel lie below St Leonard’s Bridge: under the railway
sidings (just west of platform 4). The bridge has been painted in the livery of the Perth Train Company since 1849. taken in Perth, Perth and Kinross by @thirtysecondsofperth

The name of the village, Kinloch Rannoch means ‘end’ of the loch. It could be used for either end, but is usually used for the end the water flows out of in a fresh water loch such as this, in contrast to a sea loch where the brine hits the land. Near the village is a hill reputed to resemble the head, shoulders, and torso of a man. It has been given the name of “The Sleeping Giant”. Local myth says that the giant will wake up only when he hears the sounds of his master’s flute. There is also an attractive waterfall at the entrance to the village known locally as The Falls and there is a walkway to the hill giving access to Craig Var an imposing craggy outcrop jutting into the valley and offering stupendous views over the village and nearby lochs and hills. by @thirtysecondsofperth

Perth Racecourse at the site in Scone Palace Parklands opened in 1908, just south of the ancient Cramock Burn, and is the northernmost track in Britain. However, horse racing in Perth has taken place for around 250 years and was moved to Scone Palace due to a drinking law ban in the North Inch. Lord Mansfield subsequently offered his land for the construction of a racecourse. The legendary race horse, Red Rum who won 3 Grand nationals ran and won at the track in the early 70’s. by @thirtysecondsofperth

City Hall – built in the style Baroque. The building features Ionic columns and cherub sculptures. This is the second City Hall on the site, the first was demolished 1901 after numerous incidents of plaster falling from the ceiling and injuring people. The one standing today was built in 1911 at the cost of £25,000.There was an ongoing battle to save the hall while others believed it should be flattened. Thankfully it has been saved and will house the historic Stone of Destiny next year. by @thirtysecondsofperth
