Hello! I have quite a few new followers since I last introduced myself, so I thought it was time for a bit of an update!

I'm always happy to talk about my chronic illness(es) - it's much harder to get me to shut up about them! So, please do ask away if you have any questions or queries.

Below is the text: "This. Zebra. Reads. Hello, hello, I’m Catherine and I’m the Zebra who reads! Why you ask? Well, obvious thing first, I spend a significant portion of my time reading. Less obviously, I’m host to multiple invisible (but annoyingly chronic) illnesses. You know the medical idiom “hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras”? Well, in my case, it is actually a Zebra." taken in Scotland, United Kingdom by @this.zebra.reads

I try really hard to stick to this rating system! But, I'm not infallible. Sometimes I just feel a book deserves a star (or not) for different reasons. I'll always try to explain my rationale in my review.

I also only post about books I want to recommend, so there will be a bias towards higher scoring books!

Occasionally, a book wasn't for me but I appreciate I wasn't the target audience and so you may still find me recommending it here.

All my reviews are posted to Goodreads and StoryGraph - links in my bio.

In the foreground it reads: 5 stars I loved this book! Life got put on hold to finish it. A high accolade not given lightly! 4 stars This was a great book and I’m really keen to read the next one in the series. 3 stars Decent enough read but it didn’t particularly excite me. Might read next one. 2 stars This wasn’t my cup of tea and I’m highly unlikely to read the next in series. 1 star I did not enjoy this book but I was motivated to see how it ended. 0 stars I did not finish (DNF) this book. taken in Scotland, United Kingdom by @this.zebra.reads

This is how I rate the 'adult' content in books.

I read a lot of Young Adult fiction, so my spicy scale is a bit more reserved than most! This should help anyone checking which books are suitable for their book-hoover teens. purple galaxy background. in the foreground it reads: 0 chilli There were no romantic elements in this book. 1 chilli Romantic thoughts, kissing without intent to escalate, no ‘intimate time’ references. 2 chilli Kissing with intent to escalate, euphemistic language, closed door ‘intimate time’. 3 chilli References to ‘intimate time’ topics, body part references, vague on page scenes. 4 chilli Descriptive on page ‘intimate time’, explicit language, various intimate acts. 5 chilli Significant amounts of ‘intimate time’, very descriptive explicit language, not ‘vanilla’. taken in Scotland, United Kingdom by @this.zebra.reads

A brilliant second installment!

Turncloak picks up where Silvercloak left off but this time we get a couple of new POVs. One of those is a big glimpse into Levan’s past - cue the mystery! I really enjoyed watching the story unfold from different angles and the storytelling was richer for it.

I was concerned at the end of Silvercloak that the story was going to go in a direction that wasn’t my cup of tea, but it was cleverly averted and the stakes got raised.

Although this is the middle book in the trilogy, it held its own and its main story wrapped up, leaving the door open for the last installment.

Thanks to @laurasteven @rhworlds @delreyuk @inklorebooks and @netgalley for the advance reader copy in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

5⭐ / 3🌶️/ 🧠4 (complex plot)

It’s been 4 months. The obsession is real. Thankfully, most of these were charity shop finds!

Fellow curators, how many do you have?

My toxic book trait? I cannot, and I mean CAN NOT, leave a book bargain behind.

Could you have left these on the shelf?
