Catching Up With Noé and Ambre

Originally designed by Portuguese architect Conceição da Silva, with interiors, furniture and lighting developed in close collaboration with his wife, Carmo Valente, this honey-hued modernist home in Dafundo and Cruz Quebrada is now the family home of French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, of Lisbon-based studio Made In Situ, and his partner Ambre Jarno, of Maison Intègre.

Noé first encountered the house soon after arriving in Portugal, before he was ready to buy. Years later, while he and Ambre were searching for a place to settle, it returned to them almost by chance. What followed was nearly two years of restoration: replacing the essential systems, repairing the original furniture and artworks, and studying every detail that made the house what it is.

Catching Up With Francisco Moura Veiga

Francisco Moura Veiga’s work sits at the intersection of architecture and research, where building becomes a way of questioning how we inhabit the world together. Moving between Switzerland and Portugal, his practice looks past form to interrogate architecture’s social role.

Through House of the Future, a family-led residential project in Santarém, Moura Veiga treats architecture as an evolving system: local materials, collective responsibility, and an ethical dimension that asks how we build and how we can live better.

“What we believe, and what I define as playful design, is that you always have to leave the door open for things to be appropriated in ways you cannot predict. If everything is overly defined, if a house is exactly what the architect wants it to be forever, it’s incredibly boring.”
