PART 1
Yesterday, I had the honour of unpacking the STOP IT Campaign—a bold, Deaf Youth-led digital advocacy movement defending South African Sign Language (SASL) against mockery, misrepresentation, and misuse.

I sat down with two powerful changemakers:
Madam Luthando “Lu” Kekana @luthando_k, Chairperson of the Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities and a Gauteng Women in Excellence Award honouree, and
Bra-Si (Simon Manda) @smanda1, founder of @thisabilitynewspaper —a platform that continues to elevate disability voices in South Africa.

We gathered at Wits University for the 2025 Disability Summit & Career Expo @disabilityconnectza hosted by @raf_road and @sanlam_group —a critical space championing workforce inclusion for learners, graduates, entrepreneurs, and employees living with disabilities.

This is not a moment. It’s a movement.

As an Architect of Social Impact, it is always an honour to find myself in the company of fellow system thinkers—people who aren’t just talking about inclusion, but actively building the future we deserve.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of spending time with two powerhouses:
Bra-Si @smanda1 founder of @thisabilitynewspaper and
Madam Lu @luthando_k Chairperson of the Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities.

Our dialogue affirmed what I already believe: Inclusion is not charity. It’s strategy. And justice, when designed intentionally, becomes a system—not a slogan.

Did you know The Firestation has 8 phone booths — more than double The Bank's 4?

Add 5 pause and breakout areas, and it's clear this building was made for the days that need real quiet, not just a desk.

"Can you imagine going to the bank… but doing it with an interpreter because you just can't do it by yourself?"

At the 10th @neemafoundationnpo Silent Walk and Run, Zinhle Zulu of @africanbank told us why the bank has walked alongside NEEMA Foundation since 2023.

Her focus is financial education for Deaf and hard-of-hearing South Africans. Her dream is banking that's fully accessible, so every Deaf customer can bank in dignity.

She said the whole industry has to step up

10 years. One walk. A community that refuses to go unheard.

On 13 September, the 10th @neemafoundationnpo Silent Walk and Run took over @rietvleizoofarm in the south of Johannesburg. Deaf people, families, advocates and supporters came together to celebrate a decade of solidarity.

The day also saw the launch of the NEEMA Soccer Cup ⚽ and kept the focus on the barriers Deaf people still face in education, work and access to services.

Thanks to @africanbank for returning as official partner, and congratulations to NEEMA Foundation on ten years.

Did you know The Bank has 12 meeting rooms on top of its desks and offices?

Add 3 consultation rooms and 4 phone booths, and the follow-up call never has to happen in a stairwell again.

Did you know Rosebank's best view is from the 10th floor?

The Firestation's roof terraces look out toward the Magaliesburg — skyline over sirens, and the quiet counterpoint to The Bank's buzz just five minutes down the road.

Did you know a client meeting at The Bank doesn't have to end when the meeting ends?

24 Cradock Avenue shares its building with @proudmary_sa restaurant and wine bar, and the Hyde boutique hotel — so the deal that closed in the boardroom can carry on three floors down.

Host your next meeting at The Bank →link in bio

10 YEARS OF THE SILENT WALK

@africanbank has renewed its partnership with @neemafoundationnpo to celebrate the 10th Anniversary NEEMA Silent Walk and Run — happening at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on 13 September 2026.

A decade of walking in solidarity with the Deaf community. A decade of raising awareness. A decade of pushing for real, lasting inclusion.

This year brings the launch of the NEEMA Soccer Cup, plus awareness activities and ways for the whole community to get involved — right in the middle of Deaf Awareness Month.

"It's more than an event; it is a movement that shines a light on the importance of accessibility, understanding and inclusion." — Edna Sathekga-Montse, African Bank's Chief Transformation and Sustainability Officer

Join us. Stand with the Deaf community. 🙌

South African inclusive dance, on the world stage.

Cape Town's @unmutedancetheatre premieres a brand-new work at WOMAD Cape Town 2026, honouring Archbishop Desmond Tutu's legacy of compassion, justice and humanity — Saturday, 19 September, @artscapetheatre

Created with the UK's @dyskinetic arts collective, the 12-minute piece doesn't retell Tutu's story. It explores the questions his legacy still asks of us — through the bodies, experiences and perspectives of Unmute's performers.

13 years in, Unmute remains South Africa's only full-time professional inclusive dance company, and this is exactly the kind of stage inclusive art deserves.

"We are creators, choreographers, performers and storytellers with an important contribution to make." — Nadine McKenzie, Director

📍 Artscape Theatre, Cape Town 🗓️ Saturday, 19 September, 20:00
