Some ppl survive things that could have hardened them forever, and somehow they still choose to create, nurture, feed, love, and pour into other ppl.

Our recent guest (@hey_mama_miaaa ) on This Ain’t That Podcast shared her story with us during our conversation about surviving abuse in foster care, and I really want y’all to pour some love back into this beautiful soul. 🖤

For every current or former foster child who was abused, neglected, moved from home to home, ignored, disbelieved, overmedicated, separated from siblings, or forced to advocate for themselves while phucked-up adults collected salaries to supposedly advocate for and protect us.

Unfortunately, people will still ask:

“Why didn’t you tell?”
“Who was your social worker?”
“Why don’t you name names?”
“Why didn’t somebody do something?”
Or my favorite bullshit: “What did YOU do?”

Baby, most of us DID tell.

We begged adults to listen. Some of us learned to advocate for ourselves before we could properly read, write, regulate our emotions, or even understand what the phuck was happening to us.

And no, decades later, we may not remember every damn social worker, case manager, foster parent, supervisor, therapist, judge, attorney, or agency employee who rotated through our childhoods.

That does NOT make our stories less true. And fixing the system was NEVER our responsibility.

We were children.

We were not investigators.
We were not prosecutors.
We were not case auditors.
We were not institutional watchdogs.

WE WERE THE PHUCKIN EVIDENCE THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THAT’S IT.

So when a former foster child finally tells their story at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70 years old, don’t interrogate their phuckin memory.

Just listen. Or don’t.

But don’t confuse survivors speaking decades later with the secrecy that allowed abuse to continue.

The negligence, silence, failures, and lack of accountability inside the institutions entrusted with protecting vulnerable children deserve that interrogation.

And to every foster care survivor wondering if you waited too long to tell your story:
