Hier & Jetzt auf Okonjima! 🐆 Immer wieder zwischen unseren spannenden Abenteuer Safaris, sind wir gerne privat auch mal für einige Tage auf einer Lodge und genießen die einmalige Tierwelt...aber auch den Komfort, der sich mitten in der Wildnis wirklich sehen lassen kann.

Manchmal darf es eben auch ein bisschen Luxus sein, ohne dass die Natur dabei zu kurz kommt.

Besonders gelungen finden wir das Konzept von Okonjima:
Hier werden Artenschutz, Naturschutz und wissenschaftliche Forschung mit stilvollem Komfort in der Wildnis verbunden.

Ein Ansatz, der zeigt, dass sich Naturerlebnis und verantwortungsvoller Tourismus wunderbar ergänzen können. 🌍

Für uns eine Kombination, die überzeugt und bei der man die besondere Atmosphäre Namibias auf eine ganz eigene Weise genießen kann.

Most people never experience true silence in their entire lives.
No traffic. No voices. No hum of electricity.
Just 825,000 square kilometres of ancient desert doing absolutely nothing loudly.
You will either love it or it will terrify you.
Probably both.

Auf nach Purros 🏜️ ...vom Hartmannstal führt uns eine abgelegene Strecke durch eine Landschaft, die immer wieder mit kleinen Überraschungen aufwartet.

Unterwegs entdecken wir gleich mehrere Steinmännchen. Offenbar hat der Schöpfer dieser kleinen Kunstwerke einen ganz besonderen Faible. Uns erfreut's immer wieder wenn ein neues Männchen irgendwo auftaucht.

Die Erkundungsfahrt rund um Purros und durch den Hoarusib beeindruckt vorallem mit ihrer Landschaft. Weite, trockene Flussläufe, bizarre Felsformationen und dazwischen immer wieder Leben. 🐘🦒 ... denn unterwegs begegnen wir Wüstenelefanten und Wüstengiraffen, die sich perfekt an diese karge Landschaft angepasst haben.

Kurz vor Sonnenuntergang schlagen wir unser Camp auf ⛺🌅 ... und es gibt eine Lagerfeuer Überraschung.

Buschbrot Backkurs a la Dieter... denn heute
wird frisches Brot gebacken. Und zwar gleich nach zwei verschiedenen Methoden. Einmal ganz klassisch im Topf und einmal in der Sandgrube.🍞+🥖

Beides funktioniert erstaunlich gut. Und mit dem Ofen- bzw. sandgrubenfrischen Brot schmeckt die Boerewors gleich noch einmal so gut. 😋🔥

Kein Restaurant, keine Speisekarte und trotzdem kommt etwas richtig Gutes auf den Teller.

Rhino Tracking auf Okonjima 🦏... ein Erlebnis, bei dem es um viel mehr geht als nur darum, ein Nashorn zu sehen.

Diese Breitmaulnashörner hier leben möglichst natürlich und werden nicht an Futterstellen angefüttert. Damit wechseln sie ihren Standort kontinuierlich und sind so nicht so leicht für Wilderer zu orten, weil sie nicht an feste Futterstellen gebunden sind.

Die Ranger kennen die einzelnen Tiere sehr genau und wissen, worauf sie bei Spuren und Verhalten achten müssen. Daher wird bei diesem speziellen Rhino Tracking wird bewusst kein Telemetriegerät eingesetzt. Die Ranger suchen die Tiere anhand ihrer Erfahrung, Spuren und ihrer genauen Kenntnis der einzelnen Nashörner.

Beim Tracking geht es deshalb nicht einfach mit dem Fahrzeug zum nächsten Nashorn, sondern raus in den Busch und auf Spurensuche.

Die Tiere werden täglich lokalisiert und ihr Zustand kontrolliert, denn Nashornschutz bedeutet vor allem tägliche Arbeit.

Dabei ist auch das Anti Poaching Team von Okonjima ein wichtiger Teil des Schutzes.

Breitmaulnashörner sehen übrigens nicht besonders gut und verlassen sich dafür umso mehr auf Gehör und Geruch. Wenn dann plötzlich ein über zwei Tonnen schwerer Gigant vor einem steht, wird einem schon bewusst, mit wem man hier eigentlich unterwegs ist. 😳🦏

Für uns ist genau das der besondere Wert dieser Aktivität, man sieht nicht nur ein Nashorn, sondern bekommt einen Einblick in den echten Schutz dieser Tiere.

Und genau solche Erlebnisse bleiben in Erinnerungen.

NAMIBIA PHOTO DUMP.

Polvere ovunque.
Sabbia ovunque.

Strade che a un certo punto smettono di essere strade.
Sveglie prima dell’alba, tende sul tetto, birre calde il giusto, docce quando capitano e centinaia di chilometri con fuori dal finestrino il nulla.

Quello bello.

Abbiamo attraversato deserti, scalato dune, dormito sotto cieli indecentemente pieni di stelle, inseguito tramonti, animali e piste nel mezzo del niente.

Abbiamo bucato? No. Ci siamo insabbiati? Quasi. Abbiamo sempre saputo dove stavamo andando? Domanda successiva.

Poi Etosha, lo Spitzkoppe, l’Atlantico, Sossusvlei e tutto quello che nelle foto non ci entra: le radio accese tra le macchine, le cazzate, gli imprevisti, le risate e un gruppo che dopo 16 giorni aveva parecchie storie da raccontare.

Questo é il nostro modo di attraversare la Namibia.
L’anno prossimo non fartelo raccontare. Essici.
