My son, today is your day. 8 days away from your 18th birthday, you become a high school graduate. To say that we are proud of you is not only an understatement, but a shallow equivalency to how enormously excited we are to watch you become the man that you are and will be. The world is truly yours, and your steps have been ordered by God. Who knows what this life has in store for you. But one thing for certain, your mother and I will be here every step of the way. As the saying goes, I can’t promise to love you for the rest of your life, but I can promise to love you for the rest of mine. If you are ever in a pinch and need a word of encouragement, an ear to listen, a hand to hold, or a cheerleader on your sideline, just know we will always be there.

I have fun with these every day. In case you didn’t know, I do a segment M-F at 3pm on @nmaamradio, which is the radio station that I have helped to create & operate on behalf of @thenmaam for almost a year now. The Station is an opportunity for the museum to have a footprint outside of its walls. In case you haven’t checked it out, it broadcasts 24/7 online throughout the world at nmaam.org/radio, on the Apple Store app, inside and outside of the museum’s physical building on Broadway, and everywhere you are! I also voiced a lot of the promos that run on The Station, given me a chance to use some of my old radio chops. It’s an amazingly fun project that I’m extremely proud of, and I’m honored to run on behalf of NMAAM. Big shout out to @dexterdevans, Bill Jefferies and the Board for letting me experiment with programming Black music of all kinds on this station.

It’s the best musical gumbo of Black music that you’ll ever hear.

I started doing “Today in Black Music” about three months ago just to start highlighting some things and some people that we may not know have happened on any given day. It’s been a really fascinating and fun experience.

Making a shift is not always easy. Sometimes it feels like scratching itch. Sometimes it feels like an ear worm that you just can’t get rid of. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can only do or be one thing. Surround yourself with people that understand that you don’t have to be like anyone else. You’ve gotta be the person that God has created you to be you to be.

I don’t know if I’m talking to any other restless souls out there who see all the wonder and beauty in the world, and who stay inquisitive and constantly strive to be better every day. Not because you juggle a million things, because we all know we gotta keep the main thing the main thing. But sometimes you just gotta put yourself out there and allow new things and people to enter your life to show you that there’s more out there than what you know now.

With that said, coming in Q4, these beauties will be available in downtown Memphis. 500 yards from the FedEx Forum & Beale Street. 3BR/2 1/2 Bath with one car garage.

They say all good things come to an end. I feel that way about this. But not in a sad way. In this instance, I say, all good things end the way they’re supposed to.

After nearly eight years of amazing memories, @wkndmemphis will close its doors for good this Sunday. And all I can say is…thank you, Big Memphis! The path is clear on the road ahead.

We set a remarkable standard for nightlife in Memphis, and paved the way for several establishments who took that formula and built on it. This is how a rising tide lifts all ships. 👊🏽

I think a great leader recognizes opportunities - both opportunities to stretch and opportunities to retract. They know how to level set the situation, and forge the best path forward. Although it’s not being the operator of WKND in Memphis, the building has been level set for a new operator to take advantage of the space AND will retain many of our amazing employees to open a new concept in the space. This made us so happy and confirmed that it was the right time to do it.

Starting tonight, we celebrate a legacy and an amazing run. Come out and raise a glass with us. Cheers to all of you and we’ll see you for the LAST WKND! taken in Wknd Hang Suite by @thisisagmane

Spending over 20 years of my life in radio between CUMULUS MEDIA & iHeartMedia doing what I enjoyed doing is something everyone doesn’t get to experience. After setting the mic down after 23 years in 2020, partnering to start a commercial internet station & podcast network, and creating SeasonONE Media Productions, I realized I had a little left to give to this passion of mine.

Two years ago, I pitched an idea for a custom internet radio station to the executive team at NMAAM. This station would expand their digital footprint and expand its reach from the front door of the museum to your home, car or anywhere you can listen to great music! From Broadway to Boston to Botswana, the sound of Black Music would be available to all, along with its own content, including podcasts, special programming, on-site programs, interviews with artists and much more.

I’m so proud to announce my newest collaboration with National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) to build, program and LAUNCH their custom radio station, NMAAM RADIO!
The Station explores the music represented by galleries within the museum:

Wade in The Water (Gospel)
Crossroads (Blues)
A Love Supreme (Jazz)
One Nation Under a Groove (R&B/Soul)
The Message (Hip Hop)

Programming is setup in hour-long intervals based on genre. There are also hours with a mixture of all genres. Additionally, in collaboration with Dr. Bobby Jones, there is the NMAAM Inspiration & Praise with vintage Bobby Jones Gospel shows from 6a-8a (M-F), djstevenice with his afternoon drive mix, @dwightstone with his Midday Praise Break mix at Noon, Live Music Hour at 1PM featuring performances by some of history’s best Black artists, and much more.

It is now live and available 24/7 at NMAAM.org/nmaam-radio. You can also say “Alexa, play black music museum!” on your Alexa device or app.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the rebranding of our now seven-year-old WKND Hang Suite in Memphis to the all new Taste by WKND!

We’ve taken our time and made some really cool changes on the inside as well as a new menu, new signature, cocktails, cocktail, presentations, bottle, specials, and an even better vibe.

Taste by WKND will focus on four things every week:
Brunch • Haply Hour • Day Parties • Nightlife

We will be open Wednesday through Sundays, starting at 5 PM during the week & noon on the weekends.

We’re looking forward to being your friendly neighborhood hangout spot. No cover, no hassle, no bulls#%t. 😁
