If there’s one thing about me, I bloody LOVE ❤️ LOVE!!!!

Have recently had lots of lovely reviews from some of my bespoke clients that felt too cute not to share as this really feels like such a pinch me moment 🥹

Now don’t get me wrong, running a business is NAT an easy task as I’m sure many of you will know first hand, but getting messages like this after working with a client is honestly the best feeling in the world and makes me so happy to do what I do.

If you’re seeing this and you haven’t come across my work before, then welcome on in bbz!! I’m Chloe, I’ve worked in the music industry for over 10 years both as an award-winning (hate saying that but my mum tells me I rly need to sell myself because I actually have won a few quite big ones x) music supervisor for global brands and as a composer! But everything changes after i started sharing all the music I was putting together for my own wedding online, I was suddenly inundated with comments from people asking for help who were struggling with this aspect of wedding planning… and so one thing led to another, and before I knew it Chloe’s Tapes was born! It’s my FULL-TIME business, and I’m blessed to work with so many incredible people all over the world, curating music for their weddings!

I genuinely count my lucky stars everyday that I get to call this my job. I recently asked on my story whether you’d all like to see updates of our new life down under and I was honestly slightly taken aback by how many ppl said yes SO HERE WE ARE IT’S THE NEW ZEALAND DIARIES EPISODE 1 and we’re on our first adventure out of the city.

It was Ferg’s birthday before I got here so we’re doing a belated birthday weekend for him in this famous wine village an hour from Wellington and it’s been lit. Am I sat on our bed right now at 5.30pm feeling wine drunk/slightly hungover and full of focaccia? Yes. Is Ferg sat next to me sending me memes of some scottish guy eating takeaways? Obviously yes (does anyone else’s husband/ boyfriend also spend all their time watching that guy??? Pls say yes because I’m thinking of returning mine for fear that he’s unwell)

It’s so nice here omg. We had the most epic drive through the mountains (stay tuned for part 2 for more of that). Most sad thing about travelling is feeling like you want to share all the fun things you do and the places you visit with your friends and family back home. We both keep saying “aw this person would love that” or “wow I wish they could see this”.

Welcome back to the wedding music series episode I don’t even know at this stage BUT HELLO FROM NEW ZEALAND! Coming to you live and direct (not quite lol) from the comfy new swivel chair at our current lodgings.

This week we’re delving into the FUN and talking all things wedding breakfast entrance/grand entrance/entrance to the reception whatever you wanna call it! The grand entrance is such a totally joyful and fun part of the day and as I say here in this video we didn’t actually do a song for our grand entrance (we DID drive up together to the house and everyone threw confetti on the car and at that point I played Elton John’s The B*tch is back because the intro slaps and also fun vibes x) but when we entered dinner we just sort of ran in and didn’t play anything, but I regret that as it’s a fun moment and a fun moment is always made more fun by a fun song!!

Ok so wedding grand entrance. Motown is a good option here and a crowd pleaser - doesn’t need to be the most obvious ones but I like these two. You could go down a more electronic route or you could do something that has a fun intro/build so that you amp up the energy and then run in at the drop? There’s so many options to consider… just make sure you choose something lively and HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!

WE’RE LIVE! Chloe’s Tapes is officially on the internet! I mean, we have been for a while now but we now officially have a website!!

When starting a business, one thing you realise is how much admin and tech there is to get your head around and even though creating a website is pretty straightforward these days it still seems to take up so much time when it’s just you and your inability to make quick decisions about what looks good where. With that in mind - this is very much a work in progress so pls be gentle on me all you tech wizzes out there and will continue to be updated, but I’m just so happy it’s here and I hope it’s useful! I still want to add a full page of my lovely client testimonials, along with more blog posts - but it’s a website and it’s live!

Wedding music FAQs!

So as many of you who follow me will be aware, I do a question box on Tuesdays to answer any questions or queries from my followers regarding their wedding music plans. I thought it might be useful to post a few of the questions I get repeatedly in case it’s helpful to anyone new stumbling on my page or anyone who follows me who might have missed some of these answers.

As it’s Tuesday today there’s a live question box on my stories right now! So feel free to head over there and ask any questions you might have or pop a comment below and I’ll make sure to go through and respond to them all.

Having now helped literally hundreds of people on their wedding music along with planning my own wedding earlier this year, I know first hand how stressful it can be! There’s sooo many moments to plan and so much to think about and music is just one part of the pie right! It’s a mammoth task in a sea of mammoth tasks, so I completely get how overwhelming it is and how much there is to think about.

As a music supervisor it was my literal job to source music for adverts and films from all over the world, and I’m super passionate that wedding music doesn’t and shouldn’t just exist around generic “wedding music” options that many people might not want!

I honestly think one of the absolute best compliments you can get from someone about your wedding is that your wedding felt like you, and such a huge way to do that is to make it SOUND like you because no one wants a generic wedding playlist making their carefully planned and meticulously agonised wedding feel like a random cookie-cutter wedding from a magazine.

The most special thing about your wedding is that it’s yours! It’s your love, your people, your world. It’s the thing I love most about getting to work with my bespoke couples - for the time I’m with them I’m completely engulfed in their world and it’s totally magical and more importantly TOTALLY UNIQUE!

So when you’re stuck, I’d urge you to keep coming back to what feels like you. What songs have meaning for you, what memories do you associate with them that you can share with everyone who’s coming to celebrate with you. Music has an extremely powerful connection to the memory centres in our brain! I could do a whole other post on the science because it blows my mind every time but anyway the point ISSSS that like I’m always saying, music is such a useful tool so don’t leave it as an after thought - really spend time on it.

Writing always used to be my comfort and my happy place. Whether writing songs or scribbling away in my notebook, it was how I came back to myself whenever I was feeling untethered and it was also how I tried to make sense of the world.

I fell out of the habit a few years ago and only in the last 6 months or so have I fallen in love with it again, and a huge part of that is because of this silly little newsletter.

Sometimes it feels like I’m writing into the ether, but then I’ll get some lovely reply from a reader thousands of miles away and I’ll think how cool it is that we’re both going through the same thing, or even just listening to the same song. The online world can feel so soulless and impersonal so much of the time, but then it also enables you to build a community of people from opposite ends of the globe. Sometimes I want to throw my phone in the sea, but so long as I have this I never could. You’ve got me hooked for now Apple.

YOU CAN HAVE A WEDDING WITHOUT ED SHEERAN and obviously if you know me and the music I usually suggest on this page you know he’s not someone who’s music I’m shouting about anywaaay but now there’s even more of a reason to widen the net.

There is SO much great music out there, so many fun songs, so many beautiful acoustic songs that are similar to his musical world as well so let me know if you want a post that’s more tailored to music similar to his but that isn’t the most played first dance song ever to exist in the world and also wasn’t written by a spineless weasel.

Self-employed diaries episode 2 and we’re almost 12,000 miles from home and making the most of the jet-lagged early mornings and having the sea at our door! Was cold af this morning but felt ALIVEEEE AF afterwards.

Starting your own business means you’re on your screen a lot outside standard work time, so trying to make sure I put some routines in place that mean I’m getting time away from it all too and spending quality time with Ferg

Greetings from the windy city!!

Part 1 of the 11,700 mile journey that took me from London to our new home down-under!

Honestly if you’d told me 6 months ago that I’d be waking up here in 6 months times I wouldn’t have believed you. The start of this year was really tough for me in so many ways that I won’t go into, but writing this now what strikes me most is how life can move you on in ways you could never have imagined at the time, and you sometimes you do just have to fight through the tough stuff to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.

I never really planned to be in London that long, but the years kind of blurred into one and before I knew it I’d been there for almost ten of them. Don’t get me wrong, I love London so much and it will always be a home for me, but I’ve also always loved travelling and have been desperate to go somewhere new for so long.

It’s crazy to say now but there was a moment we almost didn’t do this move. At the time Ferg got offered the position, we were about to get married and moving out and across the world so soon after the wedding felt like such a mammoth operation there was part of us that just wanted to do nothing for a while. Being here is a reminder to me to ALWAYS say yes to opportunities when they arise because wowowow I’m already falling in love with this place and it’s just so amazing to be living a completely different life for a bit, to be taken out of your routines and to be reminded of just how big the world is!

I’m planning so many big things for my music business and working with so many wonderful people so also just want to say such a huge thank you to anyone who’s been following along with Chloe’s Tapes and this journey. I’m genuinely SO grateful for the support I’ve had so far and I’m just so excited to be here and hit the ground running!!

Wedding locations and how I’d soundtrack them episode 2 and it’s Joshua Tree!!

Head’s up - you should be able to hear the tracks on each slide as you flick through so make sure your sound is on!

Okeee so when I did my last post like this I had soo many requests for other locations so I’ve decided to turn this into my new series! Joshua Tree is one that came up a lot and I absolutely LOVED thinking about how I’d soundtrack a wedding here.

There are obviously so many things you have to think about when planning a wedding and as someone who just got married myself I really am not trying to be like “YOU HAVE TO DO THIS AS WELL OR YOUR WEDDING WILL FAIL” because I absolutely hate that kind of messaging and let me be clear your wedding will be absolutely amazing no matter what because it’s YOUR WEDDING!! That being said, I hope it’s helpful to have these little pointers to help direct you and inspire you to think of how your music can really help bring people into your world. It does feel really wonderful when what you’re experiencing visually works in harmony with what you’re hearing. That doesn’t mean you can’t have all your favourites too, and I work very closely with all my bespoke couples to ensure that their music does that too because of course that’s super important!!
