We’re heading to Los Angeles for FOOD: A Convening!

Our friends at Active Cultures @activeculturesla are bringing together artists, cooks, farmers, writers, and organizers working at the intersection of food, art, and ecologies. Across two days, the convening moves through performances, presentations, workshops, and shared meals, shaped around four themes: food as medium, system, archive, and territory.

Together, the convening looks at food as an artistic medium and site of critical research, as an ecological system and economic infrastructure, as an archive of embodied memory and cultural preservation, and as territory—the ground on which land return and the transmission of plant knowledge are being actively reclaimed and restored.

September 25, 2026 at the Philosophical Research Society @philosophical_research_society The first day includes panel discussions, presentations, a workshop, and breakout session, with beverages by Senses Coffee Project @sensescoffeeproject and lunch prepared by Chef Gerardo Gonzalez.

We’re excited to be performing as part of FOOD AS MEDIUM:
What happens when food is not the subject of art, but the material of it? What kinds of political and cultural encounters become possible that other materials cannot stage?

It begins with a panel moderated by Nanette Orly @nanettekorly, with Eva Aguila @evaguila, Sita Kuratomi Bhaumik @sitabhaumik (People’s Kitchen Collective), and Heidi Ross @halloumi_heidi, followed by a performance by us, Adobo-Fish-Sauce.

We enjoyed our second ‘FireSideChatCider’ last month.

Thanks for the folks who made it to our gathering, workshop and poetry show! It’s going to be four weeks this weekend and our jars will be ready.

@adobofishsauce is always excited to embrace the ‘and’ and having another opportunity to continue to share our love for food AND poetry is a gift.

Take that first sip of fire cider knowing we made this together. Here’s to caring for ourselves but also the folks around the table.

Adobo-Fish-Sauce invites you to chop it up while we chop it up and prepare a Fire Cider together.   In our second show of the series, we will bloom a spring inspired recipe, bringing the beauty and fullness of the outdoors to inside our bodies. The ingredients will serve as a foundation for conversation, poetic invitations, and performance.  Artist duo and best friends Anthony Febo and Ricky Orng bring their love for storytelling and food to this part poetry show, part workshop. They will guide guests through stories of health, healing, and history with humor and metaphor all while guests make our own tonic to take home.

FireSideChatCider was inspired by their performance at Museum of Fine Arts @mfaboston and night cap radio @night_cap_cafe. 
We are continuing this event part of a series of four to be held throughout 2026.

Each will build on the last, culminating in a new Adobo-Fish-Sauce show to be presented at the end of the year, a show developed and inspired by the stories and themes collected from the audiences throughout the different shows.

This Sunday, June 14th from 12-2:30pm hosted at Folding Chair at Trade @tradepvd

In March we debut our first Rhode Island show and workshop. An afternoon of sharing stories, making medicine, turmeric stained hands bottling the day up. AFS got to share some poems and show folks what we’ve been working on.

If you attended the workshop and reading this far, yep it’s a great time to enjoy your cider if you haven’t already.

Moving through these movements, even just once a week, has been revitalizing.

Feeling the way my body is waking up. Knowing that with time I’ll work towards running again. And with even more time, I’ll start training for a marathon.

There is something about the world building and character creation possible through Dnd that really has me hooked.

I put this location together from 7 different maps and it’s really setting the stage for our next encounter.

On this week’s writing session, I pulled:

Angel Card - “Birth”

Hollow Woods Card - “Rider-less steed”

A page from the Complete the Story book - “In Fairbanks, Alaska for a few days each summer, the sun doesn’t set until after midnight. It’s called the midnight sun and the locals had warned me. It would mess with my head. Maybe that’s why last night had turned out that way all I wanted was to…”

Talked about something’s that came to mind, took some time to write them down, and wrote myself a poem. It’s cool to mix and match ideas, to pull inspiration from things that already exist, and listen in on the conversations that happen when they are placed in context with each other. taken in East Providence, Rhode Island by @thisisfebo

And on the last week of national poetry month, I got my gallbladder removed.

At the start of 2023, I needed 23 staples to hold together the incision where they removed my spleen and the 15cm mass on it.

I’m tired of losing parts of myself. I’m tried of cozening up to pain. Of being so tightly wound I can’t touch my toes without bending my back.

But I believe in this body. I believe in strengthening, in lengthening, in practicing tenderness alongside sweating.
