In our guide:human interview series, we sit down with rising artists, bands, and musicians to talk inspiration, process, and the stories behind the sound.

For our twelfth issue, meet Liyah.

Born in Montreal and proudly carrying her Chilean heritage, Liyah turns heartbreak into art — blending pop, house, and R&B into emotional but uplifting tracks for anyone who’s ever loved, lost, and found strength in the process. She started with violin at six, played through school orchestras and choirs, and found her sound in the studio during the pandemic.

We talked about her beginnings, the artists shaping her ear (Amy Winehouse, Boyz II Men, Américo, Jorja Smith, Billie Eilish), her latest single “LA GALÈRE” — her first release in French — and the dream of playing the Montreal Jazz Festival or a Tiny Desk Concert.
