Vote done ✅ 🗳️ I want those in power to give a shit about the people of Aotearoa New Zealand, including our elderly, people doing it extra hard and our most vulnerable - not just their rich mates and donors. I want a government that will take climate change seriously; make sure we have safe drinking water, affordable housing and kai; ensure our healthcare and education systems are properly funded and sustainably staffed; care for our environment and honour Te Tiriti. I want a better Aotearoa for my mokopuna, for my friends and whānau, for our community, for all of us. I don’t think I’m naïve in wanting these things. I’d say I’m hopeful. Hopeful that others also want better for our country and our people, and that together we can use our vote to make that happen. Let me know if you’re team early vote/have already voted, or if you’ll be voting on Election Day on Saturday 💚 by @thisismeagankerr
Took my babe @ambientdoug to The Kit Kat Club (aka @asbwaterfronttheatre) to see the @aucklandtheatreco production of Cabaret last night. He hadn’t seen Cabaret before, but has been treated* to me singing many of the songs around our whare over the years 😁 A fabulous performance, I especially loved @matungaropo as the Emcee and @monet_theperformer as Herman (and actually the whole Kit Kat Club Ensemble was great!). So saucy and lots of fun, this theatre kid is very happy! 🥰 *Whether me singing showtunes around the house is actually a treat or not is subjective. by @thisismeagankerr
Groundbreaking 🌹🍃🌼🌿🌸🌱🌷 by @thisismeagankerr
Had to supply a bio and headshot for an upcoming work thing. Haven’t had to do that for a while and really struggled because suddenly I have forgotten everything interesting about myself and can’t find a recent pic of myself looking sort of profesh and not like I am surviving on four hours of sleep. Surely I’m not alone in this?! 😅 But then I remembered that @moshsocialmedia took some great pics of me earlier this year at the @marketing_assoc #OnSocial26 conference! I got quite busy after the conference with mahi and school, and then got really sick so forgot to share my pics, so let me remedy that now + a couple of extra snaps of some of my rad friends who were speaking at the event, whose kōrero I went to tautoko ❤️ Still trying to figure out some nice (professional) things to say about myself, open to suggestions if anyone wants to help write me a two sentence bio. Apparently “Meagan is a writer, photographer and creative storyteller who would rather be patting dogs than attending a meeting that could have been an email” is not quite the vibe we are going for … even if it’s true 😉 Unserious suggestions also welcome though hehe by @thisismeagankerr
Vests: tricky to style and also may result in you having “see my vest” from The Simpsons stuck in your head all day (or maybe that’s just me…). I’ve had this golden mustard yellow vest for a while but struggle to style it so don’t wear it as often as it deserves. This is how I styled it for the office today (my job varies in terms of what I get up to but today was mostly meetings and working at my desk). If you’re a vest-wearer please share your style tips and let me know how you’d wear it so I can get some ideas! 🙏🏽 💛 Wearing: @harlow_au button up, @bhumi_organic_cotton vest, @snagtights skirt, @isla_maree blazer, Juzo lipoedema compression tights and @numberoneshoesandhannahs boots. by @thisismeagankerr
Leaving these here as a reminder to myself of what I can do, even when it’s hard 👩🏽‍🎓 Juggling work, study, an AuDHD brain that sometimes just won’t, and making sure I spend time with my friends and whānau? It’s hard almost all of the time, but the haerenga continues (currently on my last module of level 3). Karawhiua mai, bring it on! I have to mihi to @ambientdoug and @kimkerrart - couldn’t do this without your tautoko. Couldn’t be prouder to be on this haerenga with such incredible people. Love seeing all of you shine! Happy winter solstice, my friends! May your fires burn warm and bright 🔥🧡 As we head into the cold of Hōtoke (winter) here are a few moments from my Ngahuru (autumn) 🍁🍂 by @thisismeagankerr
Turns out actual joy is a lapful of snuggly puppies 🥰🐶 Thanks for letting us hang out with Fabia and Farina today @savinghopefoundationnz (and for all the dog rescue and rehabilitation mahi you do for kurī in need) ❤️🐕 by @thisismeagankerr
Mood 🙃 Also massive side eye at Instagram’s built in camera, because I snapped this pic quickly for a Story and have noticed that despite me not using a filter it both lightens and smooths my skin, both of which are unwanted and unnecessary. Please tell me I’m not the only one this happens to?! by @thisismeagankerr
AD*💋 How very 💋 This theatre kid and her tāne had Big Fun at the opening night of @heathersmusicalaunz at The Civic last night! It’s an absolutely killer show and the cast are amazing. Stand out for me was @melobrienn as Martha - a character that really hit home for me plus wow what an incredible singer! The season is has a very short season here in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, running til this Sunday 14 June, so if you’re thinking of going along, don’t sleep on it. 📷 @norrie.montgomery *Gifted tickets - ngā mihi nui to @sandrarobertspublicitynz for inviting us along 🥰 by @thisismeagankerr
AD*🦕🦖 Just a girl hanging out with her prehistoric pals 🦖🦕 The Dinosaur Discovery Track is BACK at @aucklandzoo this week! As a dinosaur fan (hello, literally wearing a Jurassic Park shirt to visit them today!) I enjoyed this so much last year that I went multiple times, and I’m thrilled to see the dinosaurs are back with some exciting new additions (including Tyrannosaurus babies!). Just like with many of the other zoo inhabitants, there are free daily dinosaur keeper talks where you can learn more about dinosaurs (side note: dinosaur keeper at Auckland Zoo might be my new dream job!). The Dinosaur Discovery Track opens to the public on 10 June and will be open from 9.30am - 4pm daily. Like last time, it’s located in the former elephant habitat on the Africa Safari Track, and entry is free with a general admission ticket or if you’re an Auckland Zoo Member like we are. There are also special Dinosaur Pass Memberships available, check out the zoo website for details on that. There are dedicated quiet times, when the dinosaurs are turned off so there will be no sound or movement. This is a great opportunity for people who are sensitive to noise or who might find it scary or overwhelming to visit and enjoy a quieter dino experience - we love accessible options 🙌🏽 If you made it this far (she’s a long form content writer, okay), let me know your favourite dinosaur fact or drop a dinosaur joke in the comments! *We are paying Auckland Zoo members, but were very kindly invited along to experience the Dinosaur Discovery Track early. by @thisismeagankerr
🥀❄️ Added a hellebore tattoo to my art project (aka my body) last weekend. Thought I’d film a little video because as with all other aspects of life, I think fat people doing things like this aren’t shown enough. So … be the representation you want to see in the world, or something. Here’s me, a fat Māori woman with lipoedema, getting tattooed. ✌🏽 I went for a black and grey tattoo at this stage (like my other floral tattoos) but I have to say I’m a bit tempted to add some colour… 🎨 Tattoo by @amandajtoner 📍 Done at @electricceremony 🧴 Aftercare @afterart.newzealand #FloralTattoo #Hellebore #BotanicalTattoo #BlackAndGreyTattoo by @thisismeagankerr
