Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Sunday 27th September (I’m a bit late posting this)
N = New Town Greenstore and Cafe
@new_town_greenstore_cafe

Do you know how hard it is to find a brunch spot in Hobart, open on weekends that starts with N.

We both had avocado toast, with was good. Someone needs to come up with a knife that cuts sourdough and supply to all cafes.

It’s an eclectic place - the cafe, a rack of clothing for sale, shelves of secondhand books, a case of gifts, artwork and bakery.

I took 3 choc orange cookies home for mum and dad. The cookies were large and very sweet. Next time I’ll share a cookie with mum.

Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Saturday 1st August (I’m a bit late posting this)
M = Marla Singer
@marlasinger_bellerive

Only our second time we’ve had sour alphabet brunch in the Eastern Shore.

Small, busy, parking can be hard to find.

Brunch menu is an odd mix. Crumpets, eggs, baked beans, calamari, lamb, cheeseburger, steak, tortellini. But then isn’t that what brunch is…. Breakfast and lunch together.

We both had the house made crumpets with ricotta, whipped honey and Kunzea. They were light and fluffy and delicious. And we had to google Kunzea. (An Aussie shrub)

The pastries in the display case looked really good too.

Worth checking out.

Saturday 20th June (I’m a bit late posting this)
L = Leoht in Battery Point
@leoht__batterypoint

Leoht is near our office. We’ve both walked past many a time. But this was our first time dining there.

Cute cafe, very light and airy with an outside dining area, although it was too chilly to be outside today.

I had my standard iced latte, no syrup today. It was good. Not bad, not great, but good.

The steel cut oats porridge with butter, stewed local fruit and nut crumble was really good.

It was packed, which made it noisy. Staff were quick and efficient but not overly friendly. The guy that did our bill boarded on rude. Maybe because they were busy and appeared to be short staffed.

Worth checking out.

Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Saturday 2nd May
K = Summer Kitchen
@summerkitchenbakery

A little bit of a cheat. But we were struggling to find a cafe with a name that started with K that is open in the mornings on weekend.

It was a lovely day, still warm enough in May to sit outside. I had an iced latte (or course) and a chocolate hazelnut & coffee croissant. It was gooey and flakey and very very tasty.

Everything looked so good. Bought a slice of apple and raspberry crumble slice and a mini coffee walnut loaf home for mum and dad. Have had their pies before they are delicious. And filling.

Worth the drive from the city. In my top 5 so far

Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Saturday 28th February
J = Jean-Pascal Patisserie

Patisserie (Cafe) on one corner, La Boutique (retail store and takeaway) on the other

Banana Bread presentation was 🥰
It was thick and toasted and quite good.
Coffee was hot and…coffee. They don’t iced lattes. Only iced coffees with icecream and cream ☹️
Denny had the pastry - has custard inside.
Service was … indifferent.

It wasn’t bad, but so many other places I’d rather go.

Saturday 14th February.
I = @imagobakeryandpatisserie

It’s tiny, but popular. Good thing Denny made a reservation.

I had a brioche bun with an egg and halloumi and my standard iced hazelnut latte.

Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Today Thursday 15th January, our first for 2026
H = @hamlet_hobart

Hamlet is not open on weekends so we changed up our routine a bit to go for breakfast before work. Getting up earlier to get the earlier bus was hard work 😊

Hamlet is a registered charity. They provide training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, neurodivergence and mental health issues.

We both went for a hot, buttery croissant and a coffee.

Staff were friendly, service was quick, the croissant was flaky goodness 🥐 and the coffee was really good - strong ☕️

Denny and I are breakfasting/brunching our way through the alphabet.

Today December 21st
G = @giddyup.foodstore

We had made a reservation for outdoor seating and when we arrived they had an inside table reserved to us. So not iff@to a good start. Luckily there was an empty table in the courtyard so we were able to move.

The menu was standard brunch fare. We both had smashed avo, mine with a pouched egg. And an iced latte for me and a cappuccino for Denny.

Staff were friendly, service was quick, food was good.

Today November 30th
F = @farzi_hobart

We both had the Cinnamon Sugar Hotcakes.
Sweet potato hotcakes, cinnamon, caramel and cream cheese. The sweet potato hotcakes intrigued me. And? And they were good. Highly recommend.

Staff were very friendly. The hotcakes are made fresh so take about 20 mins.

It’s always fun to eat beside a giant disco ball. Should do more often.

Gotta love a public toilet with a bit of colour.
