Hi friends! Exciting update for Wovxn!

As we approach 1 year of Wovxn, sharing incredible curated mixes from talented Queer and FLINTA* DJs across the country, we wanted to share some updates.

Firstly, we are so humbled and warmed by the amount of love and support this series has had from you over the past 12 months. Wovxn is predominantly a one woman enterprise (me - aka @thisisquails) and I run this series in my spare time outside my 9-5 grind. Amplifying voices often lost in an industry rooted in Black and Queer history is my passion (and frankly a tiny contribution to meaningful and overdue change).

To date, Wovxn has paid $2,200 to artists for their mixes, either from my own pocket or from the beautiful donation from @uv.cbr 🫶

I’m hoping this mix series continues for a long while yet and maybe transcends into some cross-collaborative events with interstate artists and DJs - watch this space. 👀

For now, I will keep delivering mixes as I receive them - so please keep submitting them!

For those who HAVE submitted (I couldn’t tag everyone 😢), I am so so grateful for your creative effort, talent and time, and it’s been so inspiring and wholesome to meet and know you insanely gifted and beautiful people. This series would be nothing without you.

Finally, for our 1 year birthday, we’re celebrating with a glow up, care of @freeshproducee. This has been in the works for a little bit, and Filippa understood the assignment, delivering some absolute QUALITY designs to accompany the top tier music (my minimal canva abilities can only stretch so far, you guys…)

Word on the street is that I’ve got a show on Canberra’s newest community radio station @trust.fm_ 👀

Under the moniker Wovxn / @wov.xn, the fortnightly radio show will focus on a broad spectrum of underground electronic music (read: hyperpop, emotional club, alt rnb, dub and breaks - that’s just the tip) and reshare guest mixes from Wovxn Mixtapes.

My first show airs this Friday 26 June 4-6pm (same time every fortnight). I’ll be spinning some cute tunes from @xanjeli, @hassanaboualam, @iamdjanaba @carre__carre and playing a guest mix from @suuuga.dj 💕 hope you’ll tune in then!

Very special @wov.xn show on @trust.fm_ this week! Leaning hard into my “is it Matrix music” segment inspired by @stirred.blessings. So much so, David and I caught up to judge a bunch of tracks which may or may not be Matrix music… you will have to tune in this Friday 4-6pm (aest) and 8-10am (cest) to find out where we land 😉

We are so back.

@thisisquails (she/her) is a singer, producer, and DJ from Ngunnawal Country and the founder of Wovxn. Since emerging in 2016, her music has permeated international TV (Lucifer, Catfish), national radio (Triple J, FBi).

Quails’ original tracks weave shadowy R&B with future-facing breakbeat energy and luminous synths, while her collaborations with @route8silvio, @2xm_nz and @tellus_aus stretch her creative vision across both borders and genres.

Quails’ DJ sets feature bass-laden electronica, breakbeats, halftime rhythms and the raw pulse of Brazilian funk. Her past appearances at Groovin the Moo and the official John Talabot afterparty in Ngunnawal cement her reputation for sets that are raw, transportive, and uninhibited. by @thisisquails
