We’re Courtnie and Krissy!
What we’re reading, who we’d cast and what they should wear.
Now Reading: One and Only by Maurene Goo
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This is us! We met in ballet when we were two years old and have been besties ever since! We live in different cities and talk on the phone most days. We’re always asking each other what the other one is reading, sending pics of who we picture as the main characters, and how we’d dress them!

We’ll be posting our stack at the beginning of each month and our goal is to read one book per week. Let’s get reading! by @thisisthebooklook

The Correspondent

By: Virginia Evans

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Cue the tears! Unsurprisingly, we loved every minute of this book. The Correspondent is told entirely through letters that 71 year-old Sybil Van Antwerp exchanges with friends, family, neighbors, authors, and more. It’s a story of regret, grief, family dynamics, books(!), aging and second chances. This book made us want to revive the art of letter writing!

We’ll also link in stories an interview we liked with the author where she talks about how she’s written 8 complete novels and this one was just a “palate cleanser” that she didn’t expect anyone to read.

Whew! We’re glad we got the chance to read this, Virginia! If you’re one of the few people who haven’t read this yet, what are you waiting for?! by @thisisthebooklook

Atmosphere

By: Taylor Jenkins Reid

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Well, TJR does it again!! This book wrecked us in the best way and we’re still thinking about it days later. We pretty much read it at the exact same time and were constantly texting each other about how much we loved it. As two people completely disinterested in space travel/astronomy/astronauts, we weren’t sure it was going to be for us, but the best written books completely lock you in, regardless of the subject, and Atmosphere did exactly that! (We felt similarly about Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow.) The writing, the character development, the relationships, the 80’s timeframe, there was nothing we didn’t love!! We don’t think we’ve cried this hard at the end of a book, since Evelyn Hugo!! We already know this will be a top contender for our favorite book of the year. Have you read it yet? by @thisisthebooklook

One Golden Summer

By: Carley Fortune

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫4.5/5

Whew! Leave it to Carley Fortune to write our favorite beach read of the summer (so far)! This was funny and sweet and everything you want in a summer read. We loved Charlie’s story and getting glimpses into Percy and Sam’s life together. It has it all…a lakeside romance, a fun summer bucket list and we certainly have a soft spot for a guy who’s so sweet to Nan! This may be our favorite CF book so far…and that’s saying a lot!

Who else is dreaming of spending a summer on Barry’s Bay?!

Ps: We do recommend reading Every Summer After first, but it’s not a requirement to love this! by @thisisthebooklook

Blue Sisters
By: Coco Mellors
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

Blue Sisters is a beautifully written novel with themes surrounding family, loss, and addiction. Coco Mellors examines the strong bond and often complicated dynamics between sisters. The character development is perfection and while it got a bit slow at times, we really loved the ending!

Fans of literary fiction and family dramas like Hello Beautiful will fall in love with the Blue sisters!

Ps: We are obsessed with Coco’s cover art! by @thisisthebooklook

Nightbitch
By: Rachel Yoder
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

I classify Nightbitch under “books I like (love?), but that are not for everyone!” This book had me howling (pun intended!), nodding emphatically and also saying, “ew”. The author nails early motherhood and the struggles mothers face whether they work or stay at home. As a mother of small children, I laughed out loud so many times. This book is for those who like unique, weirder fiction like All Fours or Shark Heart.

The movie was definitely different than the book and missing a lot, but it was really good and more palatable, if you will! by @thisisthebooklook

Joe Nuthin’s Guide To Life
By: Helen Fisher
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Ah, we both loved this book so much! It’s both hopeful and heartbreaking, with perfect characters and a great message. We think this is one of those books that can be recommended to anyone. We both listened and loved the audio version! This will make you laugh and cry and it should be next on everyone’s TBR list. by @thisisthebooklook

Unlikely Animals

By: Annie Hartnett

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

You guys! We’re back and with a book that we think just about anybody would like! This was a quirky, charming, heart-warming story that was sad at times but also had us laughing out loud. When we describe it (small town, degenerative brain disease, missing best friend, cemetery folks as narrator) it sounds a little depressing, but just trust us and read it!! It was written a couple of years ago and somehow flew under our radar but now we’re adding her other book, Rabbit Cake to our TBR. Courtnie thinks it may be one of her top books for the year!

Good Material

By: Dolly Alderton

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok, we sorta disagreed on Good Material!! Courtnie gave it 3 stars and Krissy gave it 4.5! We agreed that Andy got on our nerves at first and we weren’t reaching for the book. We also wanted more from Jen’s perspective!! But by the end, Krissy feels like it did a perfect job of capturing those post break-up feelings, showcasing the differences between male and female friendships and it made her cry! (Always a sign of a good book, in our opinion.) Courtnie would have liked it better if there had been more from Jen and maybe alternating viewpoints? Decide for yourself…and let us know who you agree with! by @thisisthebooklook

The Women

By: Kristin Hannah

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

We could not recommend this more and can’t believe it’s our first Kristin Hannah book! (We’re actually reading The Nightingale right now). The writing is perfect, we loved the characters and we loved the female friendships. It was an intense, heartbreaking story and gave such an eye-opening perspective. This is one of those books you’re so invested in, you stay up until 2AM to finish.
We both listened and the narration is stellar! Definitely check the triggers!

Big Gay Wedding

By : Byron Lane

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

We really liked this! It was heartwarming, funny and ultimately more touching and thought-provoking than we expected it to be. Several parts made us cry! As others have said, it reminded us of Schitt’s Creek with the over the top characters and small town setting (we’re huge fans of SC!). We also loved the intros to each chapter-so good! This was witty and well-written and we can’t wait to read Byron Lane’s next book!
