our baby’s first autumnal day out - pumpkins picking 🎃🧡🐴🍂 @marsh_farm

this was our first ever visit to a pumpkin picking farm and I’m genuinely so impressed! I’ve only ever seen pumpkin picking farms on social media and the idea of trudging through dusty and muddy floors to pick up pumpkins has never enticed me 🤣

there were more than enough activities to keep a toddler occupied (movies in a teepee, rocking horse, picnic sheds, roasting marshmallows, games, silent disco etc) and there were loads of photo ops too - perfect for celebrating your babies first autumnal pumpkin picking 🥺

the farm was so big that we didn’t even notice the whole play area behind the pumpkin picking farm and there was a train!! something we will definitely need to take her back for 🚂🥺

what i prepped for my 9 month old’s breakfast, lunch and dinner this week & the recipes (from a mum that just eyeballs most things) 💛

I realised I’d been doing baby led weaning all wrong in that I was trying to cook everything fresh on the day, and for each meal - this overwhelmed me as we ramped up to 3 meals a day and I genuinely think the only way you could do this is if you had a 3rd adult in the house 😂

💌 how to host 8 babies and 8 adults and make it as stress-free as possible 💖

🧸 I didn’t set a time for everyone to arrive - I just said, come after your baby’s first nap or whenever you need to get out of the house

🪇 I sectioned off part of our living room that was fully baby proof (no sockets, no wires, no dog toys/bowls)

🍼 I texted all of the baby equipment that I own to save anyone travelling with it and to reassure them that everything is free for them to use (changing table, bottle steriliser, prep machine etc)

🫧 My boyfriend helped me to clean the house and scrub the floors the day before as all of our babies are currently in their crawling era; he also picked up the food shop so I didn’t have to stress about it on the day (but the last thing your fellow mum friends are doing is judging your house on its cleanliness anyway!!)

🧀 For food, I stuck to cold picky bits so that there was no pressure to eat food whilst it was still hot

🚙 I designated a safe space for all of the prams so that the mums didn’t have to carry their babies from their house to mine (our babies are all roughly the same age, so our backs simply wouldn’t handle it!!)

I’m superrrrr excited to host again and I’d love to include a small craft / activity for us mums to wind down over a cuppa 🎨☕️

trying to work out when your baby needs a nap or a feed can be overwhelming (especially if you spend most days rushing out the house to make it to baby sensory classes or play cafe sessions!) so being super flexible with timings *instantly* makes us lighter 🤍

having a helping hand takes away a lot of the mental load of tidying and cleaning up! if you don’t have a spare pair of hands, starting the ‘tidy up’ a few days before the event will feel less hectic in the day 🧹

having a baby proof section of the house means you can genuinely sit back & just watch them 🥺

I hosted a play date for the MUMS 🥺🧸👶🏻🪇

because an hour at a play cafe actually means 90% of the time is spent chasing our crawling babies in opposite directions, whilst desperately trying to keep hold of our iced coffees and avoid spilling them in the communal ball pit 😅

we’ve been lucky enough to have other babies grow up with our baby thanks to @happyparents so I knew that they’d be happy to just play amongst themselves - my priority was to create a space that meant that the MUMS actually had a chance to refill our cups - literally with lemonade, but also with chin wags and plenty of sweet treats 🧁

when we renovated our house, we had also intended for it to be a ‘hosting’ house - especially as it could potentially be the house that our first baby spends their childhood in 🥺 so having a safe space for them to play whilst we *actually* fed ourselves and chatted away felt v surreal but in the words of my friend, it was defo good for the soul 🫶🏼

I’m going to share all the things that I did to make the play date as ✨stress-free✨ as possible in my next post as I think that the idea of hosting lots of babies and parents can feel quite overwhelming and stressful but as a new parent, I thought about all the things that I would appreciate if I was outside of my own home 😋
