Being nominated for a @basadiinmusicawards_sa has given me something I don't often allow myself to do: pause and look back.
Back in 2017, I started my career in Cape Town and learned the realities of this industry. It wasn't always glamorous. There were long hours, difficult assignments, moments of uncertainty and plenty of times when the rewards felt very far away. But there was also a deep love for storytelling that kept me going.
When I moved to Johannesburg, I was chasing an opportunity, but what I found was a place where I could truly grow. Over the years, I've had the privilege of meeting and working with people I once admired from a distance. I've interviewed incredible talent, told meaningful stories and built a career doing something that genuinely fulfills me.
This Basadi nomination isn't just about a single moment or achievement. It's about every early morning, every late night, every risk taken, every lesson learned and every challenge that helped shape the journalist and media practitioner I am today.
The journey is far from over, but this nomination feels like a reminder that the work matters. That consistency matters. That showing up, even when nobody is watching, matters.
Today, I want to celebrate this milestone, but I also want to thank the younger version of myself who took that first step in 2017 without knowing where the road would lead.
This moment belongs to her too.
