Isabelle Correa’s Portrait of a Person Who Pushes Love Away in Fear of Losing It is an ekphrastic study of the human heart, a deep exploration of the paradoxical yearning for love and approval and the whiplash instinct to thrust intimacy away.

Throughout the collection, Correa “speaks in the cursive drop of leaves, whispers lace in the hollow” of the reader’s ear and we succumb, oh so willingly, to the sensuous language and imagery of these poems.

The titles themselves present a masterclass in seductive allure, drawing us in to these small, hallowed worlds of horniness and hurts, where we find a woman learning to let the world in while wanting to close it out, where we feel the sting of “boyfriends like splinters in our hands”. Each line is so tangible you can taste the tulips Correa has sprouted on her tongue in the poem ‘Compensating’.

As far as I’m concerned, forget the moon Correa references in ‘Dear New Year’, this entire collection is a “serotonin spoonful” and I am eating it up.

Much like “You Can Read This Poem in Circles”, you can read this book in circles, circle the drain of falling and loving and lusting and breaking over and over again. In fact, I insist you do. by @thismanywords

It’s October and, well, I have mixed feelings about it.

October on her own merits is acceptable but for me, it’s always tangled up in the knowledge that winter is coming.

Still, you October peeps deserve a poem that honours the seduction of Fall so here you go!

It’s the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation here in Canada. As a country, it’s part of our ongoing commitment to recognizing our past treatment of Indigenous Peoples and learning how to move forward in a way that acknowledges the past, celebrates Indigenous culture, and recommits to a future that respects and honours Indigenous ways of being.

Reading Indigenous authors is just one way you can learn more about our history, empathize with the intergenerational damage caused by our ancestors, and connect with our shared past, present, and future with a renewed perspective.

It’s World Heart Day and I encourage you to take some time today to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of a heart attack and what’s within your control to prevent heart disease.

@cwhhalliance, @heartandstroke, and @heartinstitutefoundation all have excellent resources you can check out and share.

Love your heart ♥️

No, it’s not enough to not be a predator yourself, men. We’re not looking for princes, we’re looking for an ounce of human decency. Put up the signposts.

Universities like Cornell, that includes you too. It’s pretty 🤬 basic.

(I wrote frogs/princes/toads back in April 2026 around the same time I wrote princesses and frogs which at the time was inspired by CNN’s investigation of the online ‘rape academy’. Sadly it applies to too many situations.) by @thismanywords

SO much amazing fiction is out this Fall! Here are some of the books I’m most excited about.

I’ve already read Exit Party by @emilystjohnmandel and it’s phenomenal. The last few sentences are exquisite 🤌

What am I missing? Add it in the comments & maybe I’ll do a part 2. by @thismanywords

Dug into the archives for a little Wednesday woe

I believe Things to Let Go Of is from a @gatherpoets prompt of yore. What I don’t know is if it’s an ‘after’ poem. If you know, let me know so I can add credit. by @thismanywords
