Would you do us a favor and follow us on @barkandbloomfarm? We are in the process of condensing all of our businesses into one place and will need to start moving our followers over. ❤️ This Paper Ship will indeed keep sailing but we’ve decided it needs a fresh name that fits us better now. First sketch in the second photo. Thanks so much for following along all these years! It means a lot. 🥹 taken in Storybook Farm Studio by @thispapership

It’s been a hot minute since we followed up on our This Paper Ship resurrection announcement! We’ve had book deadlines, job interviews, and so much life lifeing. But guess what?! We are slowly drawing new designs for an online shop and physical goods. Here’s a little early preview of a vinyl sticker design. 🍅 Let us know what themes you’d like to see as stickers, shirts, prints, etc. taken in Jacksonville, North Carolina by @thispapership

After years in dry dock, This Paper Ship is setting sail once again! ⚓️

We built This Paper Ship in 2008 with hand-drawn illustration and lettering, warm fuzzies from holding real paper, and a blend of quirky details and whimsical colors. Then in 2018 the tide carried us somewhere unexpected, and we shifted directions into the world of children’s books as @joelandashleydraw. We’ve grown and learned and worked on some really fulfilling projects, but lately, something has been calling us back home.

In a world rocketing toward automation and AI, we’ve found ourselves craving the imperfect, the personal, and the handmade more than ever: pencil marks, hand-painted textures, wobbly lines, coffee drips. The counterintuitive freedom you get from working within the limits of your medium and materials.

After a lot of praying and thinking, we’ve pulled This Paper Ship, patched her up and gave her a fresh coat of paint, weighed anchor, and set sail again.

We’re getting back to our roots with new illustrations, paper goods, and small pieces of art made slowly and intentionally. Created by our two hands, from our two hearts.

Thank you for being here after all this time. We can’t wait to share what’s ahead. 🌊✨ taken in Jacksonville, North Carolina by @thispapership

A special friend came to tell you…

This holiday season, consider buying an extra special book for a little one in your life! It’s our first ever self published book, This Little Caterpillar. 🐛💖🦋 It’s short, sweet, and full of magic and whimsy on every page.

Your purchase will help pave the way to more self published books as it’s our goal to create a whole series. 🙏🏻

Purchase it on @ingramsparkbooks or @amazon, linked in our bio.

If you are a shop or local library there are wholesale discounts available.

Happy Holidays and we would be so grateful if you would share this! 💕 XO, Joel and Ashley Selby

Have you heard? 📣 Our new book, This Little Caterpillar, is now available on Amazon! 👏🏻https://a.co/d/fzXNraF 👏🏻 It’s a cute and oh so colorful way to show your child the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, based on the “this little piggy” nursery rhyme. 🐛🦋 Each purchase of our book helps us and the creation of our upcoming farm books at @pastureandpixel_! Thank you so much for your support! 🩷 taken in Jacksonville, North Carolina by @thispapership

Dear friends,
Every ship, from the mightiest to the tiniest, reaches a day when it’s time to say goodbye to the sea. After a lot of thought and prayer, we’ve decided it’s time to retire This Paper Ship from service.
.
It’s a bittersweet decision! We started TPS in 2008 from our first apartment, got our first client the day before our wedding (thanks @flourchildtxk!) and sold our first card several weeks after our honeymoon (thanks @pezywvu!). We’ve moved all over NC, vended at the @stationeryshow, spoken at @pepperdine, worked on the @spoonflower book, sold with some of the loveliest shops across the country, and gained so much growth in between. It’s sad to close a chapter on something so meaningful, but it’s become way too much to juggle with our growing family and illustration work.
.
BUT here’s that SWEET part! We’re now pouring every ounce of our TPS hustle into our illustration studio @joelandashleyillustration! We may be ending prints and cards under the name This Paper Ship, but one thing won’t change: our two hands and hearts making whimsical art.
.
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for announcements as we sell off our remaining inventory and equipment, and be sure to give our illustration studio a follow on IG and Facebook!
.
It’s truly been our pleasure serving each one of you over these 10 years. We love you all!
xo,
Joel & Ashley by @thispapership
