New sketchbook and my first attempt at a brush pen! I’ve always tried to copy brush pen styles digitally, but I really want to get to a point where I can just do the majority of that work on the page.

A little wonky in places as it was done without a sketch, but I had a lot of fun and I am seeing some directions to go in. Sketchbook page with ink by @thistlefell

Working on a bit of a migraine unfortunately, but wanted to post a little drawing from my sketchbook!

I used to be very hesitant to draw in my sketchbooks. I think journaling really broke me out of that. Sketchbook page by @thistlefell

Some of today’s oddities! I’ve always been a bit intimidated by inktober, but thought I might try posting a few this month. This one is day 3, ‘miniature’.

I may even try sneaking a few into my merchant journal- though those drawings tend to be only thumbnail size so we’ll see! Sketchbook page by @thistlefell

Finally back home! I am so excited for the spooky month. While it’s always my favorite time of year, something about this month just feels like it will be a good one.

I have a lot of plans for things I want to learn this month! This is a watercolor and pencil work in process. Sketchbook page work in progress. by @thistlefell

Another painting I did earlier in the year! I think this was one of the first times I felt like I might enjoy watercolor. Watercolor art of a chicken by @thistlefell

Currently visiting family and finding some of my painting attempts from earlier in the year! A little watercolor and ink peice of my mom’s rabbit BunBun.

He was a surprise pet! We found him one day outside, dumped by his previous owner.

He’s such a sweet creature who loves his blackberries. He’s supposed to cut back but mom sneaks him little treats. I made this as testament to their many crimes. Painting of a rabbit by @thistlefell

Like any sane person always looking for a reason to get more art supplies, at the start of the year I got some basic tools to make journals. Mostly for myself, but I’m now doing a few as gifts! This one is for my brother’s birthday. Photo of a custom journal by @thistlefell

Some of the day’s oddities! Set up the next sketch book, some process work on a fantasy landscape and a bit more from my merchant journal. Watercolor and journals by @thistlefell

In my morning journals I’ve been working on a small solo-rpg project.

I am not sure if it will ever be something I can release into the wild, but I thought it would be a fun way to world build for my novel.

The framework I have is a three month cycle traveling between towns and collecting things to exchange. There’s also a kind of sanity mechanic if you try to use magic.

It’s been a fun way of tricking myself into hitting my writing goals! Journal spread by @thistlefell

Today’s attempt! Some things I won’t do again, but I try to focus on the things that did work. I really enjoyed the red pencil start for sure. Watercolor, gouache and color pencil. Photo of a watercolor sketchbook by @thistlefell

Today’s work in progress! Going to try red pencil instead of ink this time. I was feeling very autumny, so a little autumnal drawing of Io and Yva. Sketches in red pencil by @thistlefell

The last page of my watercolor sketchbook! This was another painting that made me doubt starting with ink washes. I might try a few other layering methods next time.
