The Mount Pleasant BIA and Book Warehouse are bringing two Vancouver-based authors, Marcus Kliewer and Aoife Josie Clements, to Main & 27th for an evening of conversation with James Avramenko about writing, books, community, and (just in time for spooky season) the wonderfully unsettling space between reality and imagination.⁠ This event is free to attend, plus there will be complimentary wine, non-alc drinks, and treats to enjoy!

Marcus Kliewer is the author behind We Used to Live Here, a psychological horror novel that turns an ordinary home into something deeply uncanny, playing with paranoia, uncertainty and the question of whether you can trust what you’re experiencing. His newest novel, The Caretaker, continues his fascination with unsettling stories and strange worlds.⁠

Aofie Josie Clements is an author and musician whose 2026 debut novel, Persona, dives headfirst into literary horror, internet culture, isolation, and identity. The novel follows two young trans women whose lives become increasingly entangled through a series of strange and impossible discoveries - making Persona a particularly fitting read for a spooky-season conversation.⁠

Masterful vocalist T.M. Krishna occupies a markedly distinct place in the Carnatic universe, known for the stunning individuality of his renditions and an inner luminosity and passionate intensity that are wholly his own. Trained under the distinguished gurus B. Seetharama Sarma, Chengalpet Ranganathan, and Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Krishna’s music is grounded in rigorous classical learning while shaped by a singular aesthetic and expression that continues to engage rasikas, musicians, and listeners across generations.

Manodharma, the art of creating music in the moment, offers us a glimpse into the inner world of the performer. Through this process, the artist creates an edifice that dies in that very instant, yet lives forever within it. In this concert, Krishna invites us into those moments of creation as he traverses the landscapes of rāgam and tālam alongside co-artists Rajna Swaminathan on mridangam and Sruthi Sarathy on violin.

An elimination style improv show that brings twelve skilled performers together for a crash and burn competition to crown the best improvisor of the night! Your vote determines which players are eliminated until only one remains victorious.

i think i have grown too accustomed to running around venues to the point that i overlook the fact that each and every person in the crowd has their own thoughts, stories, and emotions. i am here to capture what is, hopefully, to be some of their fondest memories in moments of beauty that they might not even see. life is a lot sometimes, and it is hard to do it justice using only an electronic device. so, sometimes, the best thing to do is to put the camera down and take it all in. taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @thisweekinvan
