Run your studio on autopilot with this Peerspace feature!

You can now embed a 360° Virtual Tour directly into your studio’s listing — here’s why I think this is a game changer:

1️⃣ Your potential clients can scout 24/7 (virtually)
2️⃣ You can embed set dimensions, floor plans, and feature callouts in the tour
3️⃣ Allows your clients to learn more about your space, giving them the confidence to submit a booking request

If this sounds interesting, and want to learn more about how to create one of these for your studio I have some good news for you!

I actually started a company recently called Periscout that specializes in creating 360° Virtual Tours for Peerspace studio owners.

If you want to learn more, comment “360” below and I’ll send you some more info!

This Plexiglass Platform made $24,700 in rentals for my studio 🛠️

After getting my first studio in 2019, I wanted to build a plexiglass platform that could be rented on & off site.
The inspiration for this project came from music videos and Nike commercials where it feels like the camera is underground with the subject floating above. I wanted to build a rig that would let the clients at my studio get the same effect. After doing some research on how to build this all out — I soon realized the only way was going to involve having to teach myself metalworking.

It was quite the journey, and I breakdown it all down..
From step by step instructions, vendors, materials, costs, and even some tips & tricks if you end up wanting to build your own!

A month-to-month lease almost cost me $25K on my first studio 😳

It sounds like the “safest” option — but there’s a catch most first-time studio owners don’t see coming...
In this video I break down the difference between signing a month-to-month & a 1 year lease — and the one I’d actually sign if I was opening up my first film & photo studio!

All the information I cover in this video is actually just 1 of 10 tips that are in a free digital PDF I put together called Studio Startup, which covers everything you need to know before opening your first studio business!

After 7 years of owning & operating my own film & photo studios, If I lost everything tomorrow and had to start over, here are the 3 things I would do to ensure my success! 👇

1. Cohesive concept 🧩
Your first instinct when starting a film studio might be to have multiple sets that cater to different niches. I tried this actually in 2020… and that studio closed in 1year after opening. What I would do instead is lean all the way in to one niche. If that’s an airy sun lit photo loft, or an industrial warehouse.. lean into that niche all the way and it will lead to productions booking longer production days because they can utilize your entire space to tell their story.

2. Market research 🔎
Opening up a film studio is expensive, you are signing a multi-year lease, you are spending thousands on construction & material costs… wouldn’t you want to know if the thing you are building already exists down the street? Doing market research or a competitor analysis of other studios in your city will help you understand the gaps in the market.

3. Get on a location database 💻
As tempting as it might be to build your own custom domain studio website and try to run your studio business through this website — I’ll save you the hassle… don’t do it. Because now you need to spend ad $$ to funnel leads to your custom site. This is why I exclusively use a location database called @peerspace. This database allows your ideal clients to naturally search and discover your location, it has a built in CRM messaging section — and it makes it easy to really scale your studio business.

If you found this helpful, these are just 3 out of 10 tips from a free PDF guide I put together called Studio Startup.

Start here! 📍

👋 For starters, my name is Thomas Taugher. I am a filmmaker, entrepreneur, and owner of several film & photo studios in Los Angeles.

It’s been 20 years since I first picked up a camera and thought about moving to Los Angeles to work in the film industry. I’ve put those last 20 years into these 10 slides.

If you are new here, or have followed for a while — I appreciate the support and I look forward to sharing more here ✌️
