Auf der EXEMPLAmünchen 2008 zeigten Claudia und Thomas Weil ihre zeitgenössische Interpretation ornamentaler Gestaltung in Architektur und Design. Seit 1974 entwickelten sie über 30 Ornamentfamilien. Diese sind geometrisch auf einem Raster aus Achtecken, Quadraten und Rauten aufgebaut, später ergänzt durch florale Motive. Für die Ausstellung gestaltete das Ehepaar Weil eine Wandmalerei, welche von Kurt Goerz, Sonja Vetter und Brigitte Weber ausgeführt wurde. Eine weiter Schauwand mit Beispielen aus Weils Arbeiten im Bereich Kunst am Bau ergänzten die Präsentation.

At EXEMPLAmünchen 2008, Claudia and Thomas Weil @thomas.weil.thomas presented their contemporary interpretation of ornamentation in architecture and design. Since 1974, they developed over 30 ornament families, which are based on a grid of octagons, squares, and diamonds, later expanded with floral elements. For the exhibition, Claudia and Thomas Weil @ornamentconcepts created a site-specific mural. Further designs of their work in public art were also presented.

The life’s work of the German architect and artist #ThomasWeil formed the basis of much of my research for the exhibition Another Grammar of Ornament, now on show at @indiamahdavi Project Room and Tiny Room in Paris.

Thomas’s way of deconstructing and reconstructing the forms of decoration from the past and experimenting with new layers of ornamentation in both his preparatory sketches and oil paintings is fascinating, precise and visually thrilling.

This show represents the first time original drawings from his book New Grammar of Ornament are for sale, framed in colour to reflect the pages of the book.

Furthermore, @cc_tapis have reproduced Thomas’ work “Geometric, Free, with Dots, Lines, and Planes III” as a magnificent 300x400cm wool carpet – a unique piece that demonstrates his vision at impressive scale.
