🎤 Excited to share I'm speaking at @seriousplayconf 2026 at Duke University this week — Aug 7th!
My session: "Holding the Room: Navigating Doom Bias and False Hope with Climate-Focused Serious Games" 🌍🎲

I'll be sharing what I've learned facilitating my game Climate Cooldown and its companion curricula — and handing over a practical toolkit for game-based learning + eco-emotions in the classroom.

SPC26 brings together an incredible global community working across games, learning, health, and social impact — talks, workshops, panels, an expo, and an arcade zone.

If you'll be in Duke, let's connect!

🌐 Honored to be presenting at Scenarios Forum 2025 in Leeds, UK hosted by the Priestly Center for Climate Futures at the University of Leeds.

Some of the main topics covered at the conference are:

- The future of scenarios in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)

- Future population health and health systems under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs)

- Regional SSPs in practice: What we have learned and what lies ahead?

I will be presenting on “Serious Board Games on Climate Change as a Tool for Modeling Scenarios”. In short, I created the game Climate Cooldown as a means for us to play out scenarios based on our in-game collective actions and decisions. We get the chance to see what it takes to turn things around through a fun, social and challenging educational game.

Lastly, I want to thank those of you that helped donate or spread the word about the GoFundMe for the Davis Data Driven Change (D3C) student research team. Your support helped enable this team to participate in this conference.

🌈 Let's continue to improve our climate modeling for a better future on this planet! 🌍🌎🌏 taken in Leeds, England, UK by @thomas.yount

Another lap around the sun 🌞
Crazy how the years fly by faster the more we grow as they say. Still a kid at heart though!

As I reflect on the life I've lived till the present day, I feel blessed in more ways than I can list here. I am so grateful for all of the love and support from family, friends and people in my world I call community.

One of the biggest things I've reflected on during a birthday hike through the Upper Arroyo Seco yesterday was my relationship to my passions and the work I do. No matter how important what we *do* is to us, we have to find a balance for ourselves. It's both funny and hard at times how "burnout" can sneak up on us.

In order to lift up my frequency of being and energy I've come to realize how important rest is as well. After losing my mom to breast cancer last year things haven't been the same. I wouldn't be the same person I am today without who my mom was for me all of my life.

I've also come to know grief like never before and how important it is to take time to mourn. Take time to grieve. Take time for extra self-care when I am the only one who knows when I need it. For any of you family and friends who are grieving I hope you do the same. We live and are raised in a society where grieving isn't focused on at all until it must matter and it happens to us. Taking time to feel the feelings, the pain, the heartache and longing are crucial to healing and becoming grounded in a love for those we've lost moving forward with them.

What grief and healing do have to offer are powerful because we will always remember where we came from, our love and what a blessing life is no matter how hard. Though life is tough so are we, and we're in this together, even when we are out of sight 💪 ❤️✨️ by @thomas.yount

Had a wonderful time last Friday at the West Los Angeles College's Climate Action Palooza! Met so many amazing people who are dedicated to climate justice 💚

The many panelists covered key parts of what we need to do to take climate action in many sectors including education, economy, AI, food sovereignty and more! Honored to be a part of this event with everyone in efforts to improve our stakes in a just and equitable future for all. 🌈✨️

Big shout out to @climatectr_wcla and @earth_to_jojo for putting this event on and fellow panelists @megatoe.design from @studiosaka.co and @climatedesignersla with @i_art_rachel as well as Kelley Lê from @ecclps1 Shannon Halloway from Holloway R&D and student Andrew Rodriguez as we explored pathways to a decarbonized economy and increase climate literacy.
Please check out what these panelists are doing as it is amazing and key to our just and sustainable future. 🌈✨️

I’m excited to both be a panelist as well as facilitate a workshop at #ClimatePalooza2024 on October 25 at West LA College where I'll be introducing attendees to my game studio, @cleanearthfuture and our flagship game, #ClimateCooldown.

I’ll be sharing the vision behind the company and provide a live demonstration of how the game works through an in-person tutorial.

Participants will have the chance to play one or two rounds of the cooperative game designed to save the planet and the workshop will also include a review of additional learning resources and curriculum, such as a worksheet on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and an online learning module featuring academic and career pathways.

We’ll explore transdisciplinary content for art, language arts, and social studies, along with a sneak peek at a new prototype for a children’s version of the game. Register here: https://ClimateInnovation.eventbrite.com

Please come and join us!!! 🙏🌈✨️🌱 taken in West Los Angeles College (WLAC) by @thomas.yount
