🇬🇧One of the highlights of the year so far was last weekend, getting to sit and enjoy the family life of the nothern hawk owls. That dawn, I sat in the hide and let nature take its course. There was one owl chick left in the nest, but it was very curious about the world outside. The parents were nearby, trying to lure it out of the safe stump while its siblings could be heard begging from the edge of the forest; last weekend there were four little trolls in the nest. While I waited for the parents to bring food, I could enjoy, besides the owl chick, a group of reindeer and a mountain hare that slipped past the hide, seemingly unaware of me. A family group of Siberian jays could also be heard 'chatting' behind me for a while as they searched for something edible in the forest. Suddenly, the chick's begging calls intensified and the mother responded; shortly after, she glided in with a vole to the stump. She took her time breaking up the prey and carefully feeding the chick.
