![Ann Walker’s “Foi est tout” seal
Seal and specimen in a presentation box, from Barber and Whitwell in York.
When designing a prop, every small detail matters. Using regency jewellery boxes as reference we created a digitally printed silk lining for our faux ivory box (expertly sourced by @toni_child) to display the hand carved seal and wax specimen. Blending historical research and information from Anne Lister’s diary was key to creating items for the show.
Foi est tout” [Faith is everything] in block letters on a scroll, carved in bloodstone - gave to Ann Walker, "a birthday present to Miss W- and left to be crested" (20 May 1834)

![A portrait of Anne Lister in the manner of Frédéric Millet
Scripted as a treasured possession of Ann Walker, a portrait miniature capturing the likeness of her beloved Anne Lister, a memento from their trip to Paris.
An incredibly satisfying piece for me to paint, done in the style of Millet in the traditional manner (albeit digitally for speed) over 5 days.
“…wrote 3 pages and the ends, read over & sealed my letter to IN - nothing particular - said I had left the miniature (likeness of myself by Millet), at Lawton, so could not now send it to Fisher's. Would send it in a parcel from London...' [Anne Lister to Isabella Norcliffe 29th November 1828] - (Transcription by @chomaanne).
