Today I carried the Running Fight Club flag from Lake Ming to Lake Buena Vista while others carried the American flag, honoring 250 years of American independence.

This run is dedicated to every veteran who answered the call, every first responder who continues to serve, and everyone who sacrificed so we can live in freedom. Thank you for everything you’ve done for this country.

At Running Fight Club, we believe in doing hard things. Growth lives on the other side of discomfort. If you’re not growing, you’re dying.

35 miles of gratitude. 35 miles of purpose. 35 miles to honor 250 years of American independence.

God bless America. 🇺🇸 by @thomasryan18

October 12, 2012. A day that changed my life forever.

14 years ago today, I was involved in a horrific work accident that nearly took my life. A fractured skull, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken collarbone, a fractured spine, a traumatic brain injury, and eight days in a coma. Doctors weren’t sure if I would ever wake up, and even if I did, they were concerned I would never walk or talk again.

I survived, but the person I was before that accident never fully came back.

What followed were years of physical pain, addiction, mental battles, and trying to find my purpose again.

I never imagined that something as simple as running would change my life the way it has.

What started as a way to fight my own battles has turned into something much bigger than myself. Running Fight Club was built from that journey, and now I get to watch other people push past their own limits and discover what they’re capable of.

And somehow, 14 years later, on the exact anniversary of the accident that changed my life, this news interview comes out, giving me the opportunity to share what running has become.

God has a funny way of connecting the dots.

Sometimes the things that nearly destroy us become the very things that lead us to our purpose.

I’m just grateful to still be here, still moving, and able to give something back.

October 12, 2012. The day my old life ended, but not the end of my story.

Happy Birthday, Jeremy and Ingrid.

Another year of life. Another year of breath in your lungs. Another reminder that none of this is promised.

“All are from the dust, and all return to dust.”
Ecclesiastes 3:20

Remember where you came from.

Dust.

And one day, no matter how strong you were, how much you owned, or how important you thought you were, your body will return to it.

The clock is running whether you are or not.

So what will you do with the breath God put in your lungs?

This life was never promised to be comfortable.
The fire will come.
The house will burn.
Things you love will be taken from you.
There will be days when God feels silent and quitting feels easier than taking another step.

That’s when you find out what your foundation was built on.

Pain has a way of tearing the mask off.
Suffering exposes what comfort allows you to hide.

And when everything unnecessary has been stripped away, what remains?

Faith.
Character.
The people at your table.
And the decision to keep moving forward.

So choose that table carefully.

Walk with people who sharpen you.
People who pray for you.
People who will stand beside you in the fire and remind you who you are when you forget.

We came from dust.
We will return to dust.

Until then, we have work to do.

RFC takes care of the people who take care of us.

Running Fight Club is free. Always has been. So when a local spot supports what we’re building, we support them right back.

Stop by Uncharted Adventures Café, use code RFC, and get 10% off your order.

Grab your coffee. Grab some food. Support local. Then get back to putting in the miles.

The ones who showed up and put in the work got rewarded with a view like this.

Nobody made us be out there. Nobody was checking attendance. We showed up because that’s what we do. Put the work in when you could’ve easily stayed home. by @thomasryan18

SUNDAY LONG RUN.

Welcome back, Rocky Hernandez! Good to have you back out there with us.

Some ran 3 miles. Some ran 6. Some ran 13. Some pushed all the way to 26.

Your long run is whatever “long” means to you that day. It’s not about somebody else’s distance or pace. It’s about training your body and your mind to push a little farther than before.

Everybody who showed up this morning came to challenge themselves, put in the work and get better.

Different distances. Different paces. Different goals. Just a good group of people showing up, encouraging each other and putting in the miles.

The only competition is with yourself. by @thomasryan18

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FERNANDO! 🎉

SUNDAY LONG RUN

Some ran 20. Some ran 13. Some ran 6. Some just came out and gave what they had today.

Your long run doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Run your distance. Run your pace. Push yourself a little further than you thought you could and encourage the person next to you.

Fast, slow, experienced, or just getting started, there’s a place for you here.

Just show up. We’ll take care of the miles together.

I got the opportunity to share a little about Running Fight Club, how Uncharted Adventures found us, and why we do what we do.
RFC is simple. We run. We do hard things together. Everybody who runs has a story. Different struggles, different reasons for showing up, but we’ve learned how to suffer together.
Then they asked me:
“What pain moves you to fight?”
Back in 2012, I was hit by a truck. I spent eight days in a coma, broke several bones, and wasn’t supposed to wake up. Even if I did, I wasn’t supposed to walk or talk again.
But God had different plans.
I woke up. I learned to walk. I learned to talk. And today I get to run.
“Why do you run?”
Running is good for me mentally and physically. It clears my head and lets me test what my body is capable of. But it isn’t easy. I still deal with debilitating injuries, and compensating for old injuries sometimes creates new ones.
But I still choose to move.
I try to focus on what I have instead of what I don’t have. Every day I wake up and every step I get to take is a blessing.
Movement is medicine.
Running isn’t always about being the fastest or the fittest. Sometimes it’s about having somewhere to carry the weight of life. Heartbreak, addiction, negative thoughts, physical pain. Running might not make your problems disappear, but the miles can make them easier to carry.
Everybody who runs has a story.
Sometimes you’re not running away from your pain. You’re running through it. by @thomasryan18

Got to hang out with the Battle Bros today and run the loop for Mind Over Miles. Had a good time getting some miles in and checking out the course.

November 21 we’re taking on the 50 miler. It’s a 4.3 mile loop, every hour on the hour until we hit 50 miles.

You don’t have to do all 50. Come out, run with us, and attempt as many miles as you can. Whether it’s one loop or the full 50, just come out and challenge yourself.

It’s completely FREE to sign up on RunSignUp.

Running Fight Club was built for the people fighting battles nobody else can see.

The people trying to lose weight.
The people recovering from addiction.
The people battling anxiety, depression, heartbreak, grief, self-doubt, or simply trying to become a better version of themselves.

Everybody who laces up a pair of shoes has a story.

Some are running toward something.
Some are running away from something.
Most are running through something.

That’s what makes this community special.

It doesn’t matter if you run a 6-minute mile or a 16-minute mile. It doesn’t matter if you’re chasing a podium finish, your first 5K, your first marathon, or your first mile without stopping.

You belong.

Running is free. The ability to wake up, put two feet on the ground, and move forward is a gift from God that should never be taken for granted.

At RFC, we don’t measure people by pace. We measure them by heart, consistency, and their willingness to keep showing up when life gets hard.

Because eventually the miles become more than miles.

They become therapy.
They become discipline.
They become friendship.
They become faith.
They become growth.

Everybody is fighting something.

That’s why we call it Running Fight Club. by @thomasryan18
