Spent a few days cross-country skiing in the upper Rhône valley in southern Switzerland with my aunt and uncle. I learned how to skate ski, thanks to the great teaching of my uncle. Mad respect for those Olympic skiers who make skating uphill look like a walk in the park. It is not at all. taken in Valais by @thomassanz

The Christmas lights in Basel turned off tonight. Always a bittersweet moment. The city is so magical during the Christmas season. I often took detours home to walk the streets at night. I could never get enough. taken in Basel, Switzerland by @thomassanz

On the fourth Monday in November in Bern there is a huge onion market (Zibelemärit) that is something of legend. It officially starts at 6 AM but people show up at 4 AM to get the 'best' onion braids. Our aunt used to send us sweets from this market every Christmas so it was neat to get to visit it in person. taken in Bern, Switzerland by @thomassanz

It has been a spectacular Fall season here in Switzerland. We've just had a week of sunshine in Basel and another week of sun is in the forecast (in November!? Unthinkable for a Vancouverite). I've been making good use of it, like this lovely jaunt around the Göscheneralp Lake in central Switzerland with my aunt and uncle. taken in Göscheneralpsee by @thomassanz

I joined my church's Fall Retreat on the south coast of France (the perks of being able to drive to the Mediterranean from your church!) and it was a lovely week of delaying the inevitable end of summer alongside some wonderful people (none of which are pictured, oops). Photos are from the (amazing) place we stayed at, the neighbouring village of Port Grimaud, and a seaside hike close by. taken in Riviera Villages : Prairies De La Mer by @thomassanz

Of all the 150 Swiss huts sprinkled around the Swiss Alps, this has got to be one of the cutest and best placed. We didn't have the pleasure of staying overnight, but we did have a classic Swiss apero charcuterie board for lunch and soaked up the sunshine. Then completed the experience with a visit to the WC perched on the edge of a 600 meter cliff. taken in Swiss Alps by @thomassanz

Welcomed my friend @bepreater to the beginning of her Masters in Switzerland with a jaunt around the Swiss countryside. We headed up the Moléson (the peak on the right in the first photo), then visited the village of Gruyères and its beautiful castle (which saw several uses over its 700 year life, but most notably to me - it was bought in the 1800s by a few brothers and they turned it into an artist retreat for a few decades). taken in Gruyères, Switzerland by @thomassanz

A lovely hike with a friend through a particularly bucolic part of Switzerland. Not pictured is a hearty lunch of some of the best Rösti I've ever had, accompanied by someone practicing the alphorn in the hills close by. It was all very Swiss. We were also right next to Liechtenstein so we popped by to have a look after our hike. Vaduz is a cool spot - an interesting blend of old and new, and tons of public art (which I suppose is what you do when you have lots of money). taken in Saxer Lücke by @thomassanz
