Everyone remembers where they were. I was in London, in Pernice Brothers at the time. We had just landed a few hours prior, starting a tour. Based on people’s reaction, you would have thought it happened in London. The awful images kept pouring in, then the towers fell. All of London mouths agape, hearts connected to NYC, to the US, to all Americans. The concern people showed, the grief. It’s hard to imagine 25 years later, the distance we have from that communal moment. I remember waiting for the phone booth outside of the Columbia Hotel, trying to call again and again. I couldn’t get through. I didn’t know if everyone, especially my future father in law, was alright. All I wanted to do was get home. Everyone in the UK cradled us until we flew back days later. All my life had been bands, recording, music. And now all I could think of was @shirleyhalperin and family. Remembrances and love to all those who lost people and the lives changed that day. ❤️ you NYC, love to my fellow Pernice Brothers. taken in Manhattan, New York by @thommonahan

I was saddened to learn about the passing of Bruce Tull from the Scud Mountain Boys. Bruce was a great player and a giving person who taught me how to listen inside a reverb, how to pick the right reverb for the right part, what Guitar Tone really was. And what it meant to seriously focus on minimizing amp noise! Tull was a lover of coffee who lived in a house by the railroad tracks where what mattered was the Music. Late nights, haunted Otaris, Tull could build a cathedral from a single note. Sounds odd to say but I hadn’t seen him this century. He truly changed my life. Working with Bruce and the Scuds showed me what the path of my life could be if I filled it with sound. My condolences to his family and friends and to all Scud Mountain Boys.
