My new book is Sasquatch Country: Death, Myth, and Truth in the New American Wilderness. It examines the true story of two friends who went missing in the woods of Washington on Christmas Eve 2024. After their bodies were found following a massive, three-day search, the men were falsely labeled “Sasquatch hunters.” This turned their deaths into an international media sensation and social media punch line, twisting the facts and traumatizing their grieving families. Sasquatch Country is a quest for the truth of how the Bigfoot story got started and spread so quickly, and what really happened in a remote and wild corner of a national forest. “A perfect internet storm,” said Kirkus. “A deeply researched story of institutions failing ordinary people.”

My colleague, #KiliiiYuyan, took this picture of Chief #RoyHenryVickers for a feature we collaborated on (he pics, me words) for October 2018 issue of #Outsidemagazine. Roy’s incredible three-year project to carve a replica of a historic totem pole taken from a First Nations village culminated with a potlatch and pole raising this past summer in Oweekeno, #britishcolumbia.
