My term 2 masters project at Falmouth University for @gorton_studio - Emphemvel the Woe-Singer. A hybrid of digital and classic sculptural techniques, he is also my first foray into the world of animatronics and features a swivelling main eye. Process pics to follow!! Photos by the amazing @rosejckson who did a killer job getting some good shots of him! by @thompson_props
The beauty shots for the green goblin mask. She took bloody ages but I think came out pretty decent in the end #maskmaking #sculpting #greengoblin #godspeedspiderman by @thompson_props
Final project at CSSD - geisha automata from the live action adaption of Ghost in the Shell based on the original prop by the incredible @wetaworkshop - swipe for photos of the interior! In today's exhibition highlight, we spoke to Dave Thompson @thompson_props about the inspirations for his final project - a puppet goblin by the name of Boo-Boo Spinky! As well as some of his standout moments on the MA Prosthetic Effects course at Falmouth University. You can find out more about the MA Prosthetic Effects course here: https://www.falmouth.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/prosthetic-effects by @thompson_props
Over the last couple of weeks, @thompson_props and I had the pleasure of working on this incredible hog, beautifully sculpted by @bradg70. We started with cleaning up the 3D prints before moving on to making fibreglass moulds for both the head and body. Such an awesome project to be a part of, and a massive thank you from both of us to Brad for giving us the opportunity to work on it! #fibreglass #moldmaking #moldmaker #3dprinting #3dprints by @thompson_props
One final Emph post - a movement demo and how the underskull looks, as well as two (very low quality) videos from before the eye servo died. by @thompson_props
Some slow-mo shots of Emphemvel in action, my term 2 project at @gorton_studio , as shot by the incomparable @rosejckson earlier in the year by @thompson_props
The Emphy process: sculpted in Monster Clay Medium over a headscan of myself, with plugs for horns, teeth and eyes which were sculpted in Zbrush. I then made a 3 part fibreglass mould with a core, and did a silicone pour, before painting with psychopaint, hair punching, and returning to zbrush to make an underskull, which I then added the servo into and refined. A zip was added up the back of the mask and covered in fake fur to match the beard. Eyes were cast in a mixture of clear epoxy and UV resin. Featuring the smoothest turntable turn ever recorded, and assisted by the marvellous @jamesmakesmonsters and @_lani_mask_ when trying to get the bloody thing on for the first time. by @thompson_props
Bound at the Wrist, post 1 - Bob!! We've wrapped on filming, so are sharing some of the many bits we made for the production. @jamesmakesmonsters and myself made two standard versions of Bob, using upholstery foam for the bases and fleece skins, with an array of magnetised eyes by James, a magnetised hand that could hold a knife, as well as a hidden tube in the mouth for a smoke gag, all of which was complimented by the fantastic performances of @ray_redmond236 and @leemetherell1975 (and @__.kade.__ ) The slice makeup from slide 3 was done by the marvellous @marteffects and all of the good quality photos are from @harryorharrison from our brilliant sound team (ironically). @bound_at_the_wrist by @thompson_props
The boys side by side for a comparison. A really fun project to start the year!! by @thompson_props
Outcome 2 - my take on a real life version of Sassy the Sasquatch by the legendary @jarrad.wright , complete with googly eyes bucket hat. This outcome was a latex pour, followed by an excessive ammount of hair punching #thebiglezshow #whadayatalkinabeet by @thompson_props
Falmouth Prosthetics MA term 1 silicone outcome - big ol' Yeti. This project was my first time silicone painting, hair punching and eye making, so a big but massively enjoyable learning curve!! Please excuse the lazy backdrop for the photos, the Demon making has taken priority recently! by @thompson_props
