Niesen

The near-perfect pyramid shape of this mountain has inspired many an artist to depict it, including Ferdinand Hodler, Paul Klee and Cuno Amiet. It takes just 30 minutes to reach the 2,362m summit of the pyramid on the funicular railways from Mülenen.

Views over the Bernese Alps as far as Lake Thun and the Simmen Valley are truly amazing and the sunrises and sunsets are truly spectacular.

There is the traditional Niesen race - on the world’s longest stairway made up of 11674 stairs. Other than during this race, use of the steps along the railway line is not permitted.

Altitude: 2362m

Bethan Huws
I’ve forgotten to feed the cat, I haven’t got a cat
2019–2020

Neon tubes with argon-neon glass on two aluminum supports

„I’ve forgotten to feed the cat“, „I haven’t got a cat“. These phrases are displayed in illuminated letters above the Kunsthaus Zug courtyard wall.

They welcome visitors, encourage them to reflect and, last but not least, to smile. How is it possible that someone has „forgotten to feed the cat“? And receives the answer: „I don’t have a cat“. Are we witnessing a dialogue or a self-talk? Between the simple phrases, a story unfolds that can be rethought again and again.

The humorous light installation by renowned Welsh conceptual artist Bethan Huws (*1961) is part of the Kunsthaus Zug collection. As a gift for the 30th anniversary of the Kunsthaus, it has been glowing at Dorfstrasse 27 in Zug since 20 December 2020. The blue neon letters will draw the eye upwards along the Kunsthaus wall and connect the public space with the museum - an endeavour that the Kunsthaus has been pursuing since the 1990s with works such as „ist wird“ by Heinz Gappmayr on the north side of the Kunsthaus wall and the wooden walkway by Tadashi Kawamata.

Bethan Huws and the Kunsthaus Zug have a longstanding collaboration in which the artist, who lives in Berlin and Paris, explores the region and the Kunsthaus Zug collection. In her work „I’ve forgotten to feed the cat, I haven’t got a cat“, she focusses on language, the central theme of her work. How does language create identity, how does it connect people? And where are the limits of understanding? Where does it have a sensual effect?

It was a great pleasure to host the students of the Intensive Program in Arts Market of Bocconi and its director Andrea Rurale to share insights of the art market and in particular to highlight the Swiss art and culture ecosystem in the global context.

Thank you for showing me your impressive paintings in two major museum exhibitions in Barcelona dear @guillermolorcagarcia !

Guillermo Lorca García-Huidobro (b. 1984) is a Chilean contemporary painter whose hyperrealistic and often large-scale oil paintings explore the delicate balance between what’s beautiful and savage, innocent and deceptive, nature and nurture.

RIP dear Angela Rosengart

Dr. h.c. Angela Rosengart

28 June 1932 - 30 June 2026

With Angela Rosengart’s passing, the Swiss art world loses one of its most influential figures. As an art dealer, she initially ran the renowned Galerie Rosengart in Lucerne together with her father. Her life’s work culminated in the establishment of the Rosengart Foundation in 1992 and the opening of the Rosengart Collection Museum in 2002, into which she donated her outstanding private collection of Classical Modern art – a lasting monument to cultural promotion that resonates far beyond Switzerland’s borders.

We mourn the loss of a true grande dame of our profession, whose passion for art and profound expertise will always serve as a model for us. She significantly shaped the Swiss art scene well into her later years.

Angela Rosengart was a longstanding honorary member of the Swiss Art Trading Association for which I serve as President since 2021.

Thank you for everything dear Angela, rest in peace.

As a friend and dealer to art superstars Warhol and Basquiat, the notoriously media-shy Zurich native Bruno Bischofberger became a legend in his own right. Now, one of the greatest, most influential, and visionary gallerists of the second half of the 20th century has passed away. Rest in peace, Bruno. Our deepest gratitude for your life’s work and for your immense contribution to establishing Zurich as a true capital of art.
