In the late nineties—yes, that decade everyone seems to be longing for these days—we found ourselves at the Art Students League of New York. That legendary place became the center of our lives for many years. There, we found rigorous training in painting and sculpture, but also community, while learning the ropes of creating art spaces and opportunities of our own.
Throughout our 30 years in this vast and complicated country, New York and Newark have shaped us in ways we are still discovering. Our work has transformed with us. CAZORLA + SALEME, a LatAm duet, was born in 2010 and has been unstoppable ever since, creating public art, sculptures, installations, paintings, drawings, and books about people and for the people.
Lately, we have been asking ourselves where our curvilinear forms begin or end; why monumentality seems written into our DNA; and how carefully composed palettes of bright, fluorescent hues can tell endless narratives.

We revisit memories of home, our multicultural, multiracial shared home, where stories of faraway cities such as Berlin or mystical lands like the Andean mountains and deep blues found in the Caribbean seas shaped our fantasies. Heritage is impossible to hide—a heritage that does not define us as one thing, but as layers of a whole, where you, me, and all of us are part.

The Runway Routine, a new road mural, is presented by the Garment District Alliance in partnership with DOT ART

Please join us on
Tuesday, June 9th
12 to 2 PM
Broadway Plaza NYC
between 39th & 40th Streets

Live Music-Lemonade -Speeches

The Runway Routine is a new surface mural by the duo CAZORLA + SALEME, created exclusively for the New York City Garment District Alliance.

In the Year of the Fire Horse—a symbol of speed, endurance, freedom, and success—fire brings intensity, momentum, and radiant force. This energy echoes the rhythm of the Garment District, where bodies, fabrics, and stories move in constant flow.

We imagine a path of color blooming across the ground, where our signature floral language emerges as both structure and ornament. Inspired by nature as a timeless source for textiles and fashion, the composition unfolds like a living fabric—layered, luminous, and in motion.

Like silk catching the light, the mural wraps the Broadway Plaza in sheen and movement, inviting the passerby to step into the work and become part of its rhythm.

The piece seeks to transform and transport the spirit—offering a moment of joy, softness, and renewal within the pace of the city, and leaving behind a trace of hope.
