‘Threads of the Past’ Slow Stitching

Kelmscott Manor is joining the Threads Festival at 19 Canal Walk Swindon SN1 1LD for a workshop inspired by the conservation of their 17th-century tapestries! Slow down as you explore these historic textiles and stitch a patch inspired by the hidden details of the tapestries. All ages and abilities welcome.

You’re invited to add your embroidery to a patchwork panel, which will go on display at Kelmscott Manor next year as part of our major ‘Threads of the Past’ project, celebrating community responses to the tapestries

Working on some techniques to use in an up coming workshop in collaboration with @artsite.ltd and @the_subversive_stitcher for her I am man project.
This project is where men are being invited to create a textile piece about their experiences of being a man , these pieces will then be made into a life size patchwork man.
I was thinking about what I am .........

The finished piece will be exhibited at @threadsfestswindon next year.

To find out more visit @the_subversive_stitcher page to see the post details.

My finished embroidery based on the tapestries that hang at @kelmscottmanor
We had the pleasure of Hannah from Kelmscot running a workshop @threadsfestswindon as part of their Threads of the past project.
Thereby we chose a small part of one of the 4 tapestries to be inspired by.
I chose someone who had been murdered and layed in a heap!

Manly running stitch and a few french knots thrown in.

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Rebecca Mordan @bunny_morethan
to @threadsfestswindon this evening.
Rebecca gave us such a fantastic insight into the stories of the Greenham woman through their voices and her knowledge and a beautiful song called You can't kill the spirit which we can only imagine how powerful it must have sounded sung together by thousands of women.

The book is called 'Out of the DARKNESS' and is a wonderful insight into the lives of the women on the camps and how much impact their peaceful protest on many aspects of life and women's rights.

Thank you Rebecca and to @greenhamwomen for letting us display your wonderful pieces of history and for telling us the stories of these extraordinary women.
