John MacKechnie creates one of a kind works at the intersection of painting and screen printing. A unique combination of hand painting on linen canvas, the artist adds layers of definition with silk screen printing to retain the subtleties of painting with the crispness of print. Now on view through 10/11 in our current show Reflective Elegance.

Paths Becoming Flight has found a new home.

This piece grew from a symbol that returns again and again in my work -- the hand as a gesture of reaching, offering, and becoming. From the hand, a tree emerges, and from its branches a hybrid messenger takes flight. The lines of the hand appear like a hidden map of paths still waiting to unfold.
I am drawn to those in-between places where something is still forming, changing direction, or
preparing to become what it has not yet been.

Dreaming is turning into creative action!

I’ve completed the first half of the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck in my second series—this time, reimagined in miniature and abstract form.

It feels so good to be back in the studio.

After my last exhibition, Formed by the Fates, which took three and a half years to bring to life, I needed a timeout. I stepped away physically from the studio, but I never really stopped creating.

The ideas kept coming. I was imagining, exploring, and sculpting in my mind’s eye. And I’ve come to realize that this part of the creative process is every bit as powerful as the moment when an actual sculpture begins to take form.

Perhaps the work needs to live in us before it can live in the world.

Now, those dreams are beginning to take physical shape again.

Feels greatto be back in the studio!!✨
