Huge dork with an obsession of the past and an admiration of art forms new and old. How do you do, fellow kids?

In a stroke of surprising luck, I managed to get a portrait commission from one of my favorite artists, @scottlava. Whom better to have a showdown with than the enemy of my wallet these past few years: my coveted Criterion Collection 💿 by @thriftjamatic

Spent the last year making my way through a majority of the Steely Dan catalogue and they’ve quickly become all-time faves. That jazz and rock fusion with clever, visual lyrics and Donald Fagen’s nasally voice make for something completely unique. Celebrating Fagen’s 78th b-day with other Danheads at the Lodge Room was a perfect way to cap that year-long journey. Fonteyn KILLED it with her rendition of “Black Cow” which is easily one of my favorite album openers. Listen to those horns! 🎷 taken in Lodge Room Highland Park by @thriftjamatic

The Art Institute scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is probably my favorite sequence in any film. Using just visuals and a lovely Smith’s cover, Hughes is able to capture the bliss and contemplation one can feel while being surrounded by works of creative beauty. I always go through museums listening to music that captures the vibe of the art I’m seeing and having the right track play when you’re looking at the right painting can have a profound impact on your soul.

Cameron Frye’s a character I see a bit too much of myself in sometimes and I’ve always wanted to recreate this scene and see Seurat’s pointillist masterpiece in person. It’s absolutely mesmerizing. taken in The Art Institute of Chicago by @thriftjamatic

Gustave Caillebotte exhibit at the Getty - the privileged yet idle lives of the French bourgeoisie.

Love pairing the music of The Caretaker with Impressionist art from this era. Eerie, nostalgic, and beautiful - like a waking dream. taken in The Getty Center by @thriftjamatic

The Last Hour of Oppenheimer

The hour that had me returning to the theater again and again. The mutual assured destruction of J. Robert Oppenheimer and Lewis Strauss - two ambitious men caught in the fallout of their hubris. One haunted by mortifying guilt and the other enraged by vindictive vengeance. by @thriftjamatic

Last pic is with the real thing! Jack Nicholson brought it to set from his own wardrobe. Now you know! 😉

Memories of Summer shot on 16mm by my dear friend, G.
A matinee showing of Repo Man on 35mm with @tenderpunkgirl and Blade Runner (Final Cut, of course) on 35mm with @jgallats, who I then “retired” post-screening. 😉 by @thriftjamatic

It’s my Bowie bday! This year, I am especially grateful to the lovely friends I’ve made through my possibly unhealthy obsession with film and rep cinemas. It’s truly nice to have a passionate community of fellow nerds that I can bump into by chance because we all needed to see the New Bev Friday matinee on 35mm. I love this town.

Thank you to G for teaching me how to use his 16mm camera and @zach_babadork for shooting me on film. 🎞️ by @thriftjamatic

Happy 89th to the late, great Carl Sagan. I had the opportunity to visit his resting place in Ithaca last month; very tranquil. The man helped me appreciate not just the beauty of the science of the natural world but our place in it as well. I am forever grateful.

Here’s to you, Carl. by @thriftjamatic

As I finish up my first quarter-century on this planet, I wanted to take a look back on all the nice moments I had over the past year with the wonderful people I have the pleasure of calling my friends. Life wouldn’t be as fun without ‘em! Here’s to the next 25 years! 😁 by @thriftjamatic
