Steve Nazar rose to prominence in the early 1980s through his work with Town & Country Surf Designs (T&C), a Hawaii-based surf company. There, he created some of the most recognizable surf graphics of the era, including characters like Thrilla Gorilla, Da’ Boys, and other vibrant mascots that blended humor, attitude, and exaggerated cartoon energy. His artwork helped transform surf apparel into a global fashion statement and played a major role in popularizing graphic-driven surfwear worldwide.Throughout his career, Nazar’s work has extended beyond surfboards and T-shirts into branding, advertising, character development, and licensed merchandise. His art is known for its clean lines, saturated colors, dynamic motion, and playful personality—hallmarks of the 1980s surf and skate aesthetic.In addition to commercial success, Nazar’s influence continues in contemporary surf and streetwear culture. His designs remain iconic within action-sports communities, and his original artwork is collected by fans of retro surf art. Today, Steve Nazar is recognized as a pioneering figure who helped define the visual identity of modern surf branding and left a lasting imprint on pop and youth culture.Steve grew up in Riverside and live on Maude Street. He attended Victoria Elementary, Gage Middle School and then graduated from Poly High School in 1974.Though Diane and Steve first met in 2013 at ProAbition, they did not reconnect until 2014. Their first date in 2014 was at the Tabacco Lounge in Downtown Riverside, and after that first date they were inseparable. At this point in Steve’s life, he was semi-retired, occasionally working freelance, and selling his original pieces on eBay. Diane help Steve create an Instagram page for his art and also encouraged him to start taking part in Comic Cons in 2014. Steve enjoyed connecting with his fans in person and hearing the stories of how new generations of fans were finding his work. Steve always wanted to retire in the Palm Springs area and that became a reality in December 2024 when he and Diane moved to Rancho Mirage. He continued to live there until his passing on March 9th, 2025. by @thrillakrew
