People with BPD often think in "black and white". This means they see things as either all good or all bad, with no room for in between.

Black and white thinking is dangerous, as it can lead to catstrophising and suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

I tend to think this way about myself. Either I do a great job at something or I make one mistake, which makes me a complete failure. Thinking in this way is exhausting and it's important to weigh up the facts to help realise that something can sit in the middle of a spectrum.

Learning to think in a healthier way isn't easy when your brain is wired to think in black and white, but DBT skills can be useful to try and see the bigger picture.

Boundaries are so important in all aspects of our lives. They help us to stick to our values, protect our wellbeing and focus on ourselves.

I've been learning to implement boundaries in life. I used to say yes to everything, but now I'm learning to say no when I don't have capacity.

Do you feel like you're living your life in survival mode? Together, we can turn this into thriving. Hence the name Thrive Together 💛

Remember all the good things in life. The great people, cute pets, beautiful nature, lovely sips of hot drinks, laughter, playing your favourite game, reading an interesting book. The list goes on.

Thriving doesn't mean being the best version of yourself everyday and mental health issues automatically disappearing. It can mean just appreciating the small moments and people. It can mean finding some joy in a day. You can be thriving but still feel emotions - after all, we are human.

Thriving can mean learning to set boundaries, asking for help when things get too heavy, celebrating your small wins. It doesn't mean being happy everyday.

Sometimes, surviving is all you can manage though, and that is enough too 💛 remember, you are enough, whether you're struggling or not. What small wins are you celebrating today? ✨️
